Dom wrapped her fingers tightly around the warm cup of tea she had poured herself. Her eyes gazing out into the back garden as her lips hovered over the rim of the mug. She was prepared to fly out to Calgary for the table read in the morning, her mind wandering as she focused on the birds outside the window. Her thoughts were fuzzy for the most part, trying to make her desires slide back into her mind but she refused to entertain them. Her body on the other hand still buzzed occasionally whenever her thoughts wandered towards the redhead.
Dom took a few sips of the warm liquid, facing her kitchen. It was spotless, cleaned of all clutter with a small bag propped up against the granite counter. The brunette had packed tea for her travels, taking one final glance before shuffling into her living room and taking a seat on her sofa. She was ready to leave Montreal, her chest swelling from the thought of leaving home once more. A hum began to stir the room as she placed her tea onto the coffee table.
'Who's calling?' She questioned herself, brushing her fingers over the cold object before Kat's name flashed across the screen. Her breath caught as she lowered the device into her lap, the vibration matching the nerves she now felt. It had been two weeks since she decided to give Kat space. The older woman constantly dialed her or begged for Dom to answer but she too had a lot on her mind. She didn't want to ruin a friendship over the fact that sex seemed to have been the main pull the two found as of late between the other. That last ring before the phone would go into voicemail, Dom took a breath and slid the bar over to answer it.
'Dom speaking.' Her voice was chipper, almost natural in its tone.
'Hey uh, it's Kat.'
'I know silly, caller ID and such.' Dom ran her fingers across the base of her sundress, her eyes finding her tea mug as a welcoming distraction.
'I thought you were mad at me, considering you've been avoiding my calls.' Kat was never one for insecurities but it seemed as if she was slowly questioning the environment she created.
'I'm not mad. I couldn't be mad at you. I suppose I just needed some space.' Dom focused on the silence that now followed, the wind from the phone catching her attention. 'Are you in a car?'
'What would you say to a very last minute visit?' Kat had awaited the woman's words, hoping that Dom wouldn't turn her away. That morning, she packed a small bag and tossed it into her rental. By the time her partner had awakened, she was caught with her keys dangling from her fingers.
'What are you up to?' The man asked, his bare chest being covered by the shirt he now tossed on.
'I was going to check on Dominique.' Kat brought up, her husband's eyes sort of squinting.
'Kat, you leave for Calgary tomorrow and I thought the plan was for us to spend the day together. You know, before you left.' Although Ray was annoyed, he didn't let it show, watching as his wife took a deep breath.
'I've been trying to talk to her for two weeks and she hasn't answered a single call. I just...' She worried if she had messed up. If she had said something wrong or pushed the brunette too far. It was silly of her to just pack up and check on her but she had to do it for her own sanity.
'What's your plan, drive to Montreal today and what?'
'I'll be back before dinner.' Kat gave a reassuring smile to Ray. 'And we can be up all night doing whatever you want.' It was already hard enough for the man to protest, his shoulders dropping in defeat as Kat strolled over to give him a quick goodbye kiss.
'Be back before seven or I'm calling you like crazy.' Ray studied his wife as she gave him a hug, her nose brushing his rough cheek before she pulled back and kissed the tough skin.
