It was midnight. Dom's chest ached as she tightly crossed her arms, tears rimming her eyes and frustration making itself known across her forehead. Her stomach lurched with each small noise from outside and yet none of them had lead to the redhead walking into her house. Dom bit down hard against her bottom lip, her constant thoughts about where she was fitting into all of this beginning to blur. She would fall asleep and wake up to another night without Kat. Another weekend that was supposed to be hers. She figured that she should at least get use to sharing the redhead, but her heart was telling her otherwise.
As angry as she was, the tears rimming her cheeks for the second night in a row fell slower than the first. They ran against her chin and dripped against her skin as she pushed herself under the blankets and closed her eyes. Her stomach was pulling at her chest or maybe it was because her entire body was on the same wavelength. Dom adjusted her pillow under head a few times, trying to get into a comfortable position as her aching chest began to soothe her. She wondered how Kat would try to get out of this one. She was annoyed because she was going to give the woman whatever she had asked for, no questions needed.
With a bated breath, Dom tried to think about something else. Anything else really. She felt her chin shiver. Fuck, did she have it bad. The brunette found herself playing a million and one scenarios in her head and yet the conclusion was always the same. Ray refused to let the taller woman visit. He must have told Kat that things weren't resolved and until then they couldn't be alone. Dom's stomach twisted once more as she pushed herself upright. She didn't know what to expect, but she was very clear of her aching heart.
She said they wouldn't do this after she was married. She remembered telling herself those exact words but it happened again. It was just weeks before she would return to Calgary, a little over two months when Kat's constant dreams began to seep into her daily life. She found herself daydreaming and whispering things under her breath only to receive a confused response from her husband. She had took a few therapy sessions, not talking much about anything but the way she was feeling and the binds that held her. Kat was going into a downward spiral in her own head and her husband had eventually taken notice.
"Are you okay?" Ray had brushed his fingers across his wife's lips.
"I'm just..." the two were in the house, chatting back and forth about nonsense until that question arose. Kat was keeping small secrets and they were all about her friend. Her fantasies. Her desires.
"Honey?" Ray pressed his nose against Kat's as she turned her head, her lips brushing against his cheek. He had been trying to get her to open up and speak her peace for the past few weeks, but nothing had worked. Their sex life was better than ever, so the man was confused on what held onto her so tightly. He had a plan, running his fingers along Kat's back as she took in a desperate breath. Ray left to do something he hadn't spoken on while Kat was going to do whatever it took to get her friend out of her head. She studied the picture frame of her and Ray over the mantel, both of them smiling brightly at one another.
Kat ran her fingers across the frame, turning towards their television to play the saved gallery of wedding photos. One after the other, she was losing herself in the smiles of her family and friends, only to be hit with Dom's hazel eyes. They were soft and inviting, gentle. The woman groaned, falling against her sofa as her friend's giggle lit up the room as a video played. This was bad and it would spiral if Kat didn't do anything about it. Ray smiled, his fingers stroking through his wife's hair before he whispered that he would be heading out. Kat nodded, her finger hovering over the delete button on the screen. One click after the other, her wedding photos began to disappear and she only stopped when she saw one of her and Dom.
