Coffee For Two

Thanks for the stars guys. I'm missing your comments, but that's okay. I'm enjoying changing the pace a bit, and since you guys aren't telling me otherwise, I'll keep at it.

            The early Saturday morning had carried warm sunshine across Calagary. It was nice to film in the middle of summer, a rarity for the show the women worked on. Kat was gripping her hot cup of coffee between her fingers, her eyes studying the rising steam as Melanie sipped on her own cup across from her.

"It's that bad huh?" The older woman questioned, grabbing her breakfast sandwich as she focused on her friend. The two had been filling one another in on their lives and not much else. Kat knew that Mealnie was tempted to ask about their brunette friend but chose against it on several occasions. But here they were, sipping on coffee at a local café and Melanie had to involve herself a bit more. "How is Ray taking all of this?"

"Huh?" Kat snapped out of her thoughts, raising her head before finally sipping her drink.

"I asked how Ray was taking the entire...situation." Melanie rose her eyebrow at the last word, waiting for her friend to fill her in more. But the woman stayed silent. "Well whatever is going on, I hope youre keeping parts of yourself for him." There was no holding back between the two. "You guys do have set boundaries right?" Although neither woman originally said the other woman's name, Kat thumbed her mug before sighing.

"Ray set some stipulations a week ago."

"Okay, that's good. And what are they?"

"I didn't ask." Kat shrugged as her friend gazed at her over her coffee. "He didn't tell me. He told Dom."

"And you've never asked her what you two shouldn't be doing?"

"No."

"What about your own set rules? Don't you have boundaries you don't want her to cross because of him?" Melanie was devouring her sandwich in curiosity of the conversation. She didn't want to be filled in on details, but she wanted to know what her friends were up to. Kat rolled her eyes, she doesn't care my ass.

"I don't have any rules for sex. It's just sex."

"So what youre saying is that it's a free for all in the bedroom?" Melanie placed her coffee down, crossing her arms before shaking her head. "Does Dom just go with whatever as well, or were there times when she said 'no' to things? Because maybe that's a way of showing you what your husband said was off limits."

Kat began to run her fingers across her wedding rings, gazing down at them as if they would melt into her skin and cease to exist. Melanie was pondering on what other questions she'd like to ask, just as Kat's phone buzzed. The screen had a unread text from Dom. The redhead glanced up at her friend.

     'Katherine? You should probably start caring about these things.'

     'I do care about them.' She admitted, brushing her finger across the rim of her open mug. 'It's just that... I know Ray and I know he was probably unreasonable in his request.'

     'Unreasonable?' Melanie scoffed. 'He should have just as much say so in this matter as you.'

     'You sound like Ray.' Kat ran her slender fingers over her covered knees. 'I know my husband, and I know Dom. What one wants the other would disagree on and I'm the only one keeping a line between what those two things should be.'

     'So you do have a line?'

     'It's slightly blurred at the moment but I know I have one.' Kat finished off her coffee as her friend gazed up at the sky before glancing back at her.
