Kat was nervous. God why was she so nervous? She kept her fingers clasped together as she awaited at her mother's front door for her friend to arrive. Ray was out with his father-in-law at the moment, so the three women, Kat, her mother and Dom, were all going to have afternoon tea. The taller woman took a breath, opening the door to reveal her brunette friend with her hand raised as she was going to attempt to knock. Kat didn't waste any time pulling Dom in for a hug as the smaller woman giggled and tightly wrapped her arms around her.
"I've missed you so much." Kat found herself saying against the brunette's ear. Dom knew not to think anything from those words, nodding against her friend's chest. It had been a long time since they've seen one another.
"I've missed you too, love."
The two women pulled back, Kat's eyes were searching her friend's with excitement. They were both happy to see the other after being months apart because of their show's hiatus, Dom's travels and Kat moving to LA. It was a lot of change to acknowledge but the women felt as if it was just yesterday when they saw the other last. Kat felt a nervous knot in her stomach as Dom stepped passed. Was she to greet her like usual and give her a gentle peck on the lips? Or was she just going to keep the hug as their greeting? She was married now, Kat told herself, she had to set her own rules and boundaries.
All three women sat at the round table on the back deck, giggling and speaking about travel and what was coming next. Kat brought up how she and Ray were planning on moving back to Toronto before too long, finding LA a bit out of their league at times. The two wanted to be around friendly faces and family once more. As Dom informed the two about her adventures, Kat hadn't noticed the smirk that crept along her own skin. She was intently watching the brunette just before Dom's hand stretched under the table to tap her knee. The taller woman couldn't pinpoint why it caused a surge of energy to trickle against her skin but it did. She grabbed her hand until Ray and Kat's father returned.
Bernie began to whine in the middle of the night. Dom had her face buried in her pillow, a night of unexpected tears draining her. The small pup yelped once to get her attention, pawing at the door as the brunette sat up. Her blurred vision adjusted to the room as her groggy voice echoed off the walls.
"What is it Bernie?" She shifted out of bed as the dog barked. "Gotta pee huh?" Dom shuffled out of the room and down the stairs, the small pup sprinting along side her. She quickly grabbed a jacket, her legs covered by her leggings and a night shirt. "Okay, after you." She pulled open the front door as Bernie darted into the small patch of grass out front as he handled his business. The night was quiet as the brunette gazed down the street at that familiar place. A shadow moved about on the second floor as a figure sat against the apartment outside.
Bernie finished up, his nose sniffing the ground before his ears perked up. Dom tried to see the person standing in the shadows, but only took notice when they moved. Bernie perked up and barked as Dom carried herself down the cold steps, shushing the pup. The second floor window down the street showed a figure stopping and gazing out. It was Kat.
"Hey come here." Ray called to the pup as Bernie gazed back at Dom, his feet happily dancing in place. The dog knew not to dart across the street nor leave who he was currently with until told to do so.
"Why are you up so late?" Dom questioned, her feet planting against the cold concrete. Ray bent down to ruffle Bernie's fur before he stood, stuffing his hands into his pockets.
"You know why."
Dom lowered her head for a moment, taking in a breath before staring directly at him.
