ENJOY.
Kat sat in her childhood bedroom, legs crossed against the matters as the soft blankets lay folded near her feet. Her mother had carried in the material just minutes ago as Kat's father said goodbye to Ray for the evening. Bernie had went with him back home, the house once again quiet. As the redhead twiddled her thumbs over one another her mother stepped back into the space. There was a soft look to the eyes looking back at her daughter, a caring and understanding one.
"Your father and I will start dinner if you want to make up your bed and join us later. I promise we won't bring up anything we've currently discussed." With a smile and a nod, her mother turned to leave, slowly closing the door as the redhead took in a deep breath. She felt like a child again, left alone in her room, it feeling foreign to her in this moment. She had just discussed Dom to both her parents and Ray and it reminded her of so much of herself that she suppressed. In Kat's mind, it just had to be the brunette to shock her system and force her to deal with her buried secrets. She groaned, stretching her limbs before falling backwards against the bed. Kat knew that it would be selfish to just call the brunette back in Calgary and once again spill her heart out, selfish because this is what she did when things became too much. She had to learn how to handle her feeling on her own at some point, but support was always nice.
Kat covered her face with her left hand, knowing that handling this on her own, well at least with Ray, would be the right thing to do. She had to trust her decision and make sure it wasn't influenced by anything but her own heart and mind, her actions being purely the work of what she wanted and not lust. With a sort of arrogance in the air, Kat huffed about and searched her pockets for her phone,
At the dining room table Kat and her parents sat in silence with Ray. Her mother had already mentioned her brunette friend and so the redhead knew there were no secrets to hide behind. Ray gritted his teeth, his own aching chest reminding him that his feelings were still pretty much invested in the woman next to him. Kat's mother encouraged her to speak, her eyes soft and voice calm.
"Go ahead." Her mother nodded as the redhead's father studied her confused.
"I think that Ray and I are going to get a divorce." It was the first time that the woman was unsure. Yes, she wanted it, but gazing at her parents without knowing about their approval was what paused her voice. What they thought of the woman, her actions and the like meant the world to her, she wanted to be the best version of herself for them.
"How come?" Her father questioned, gazing at the other man in the room. Kat spoke before he could get a chance to scold Ray.
"It's because of me. I want it." Kat gazed up, her brow furrowed. "It's because I've been in love with someone else for a while now and... I'm sorry I never said anything before. I just, I grew to learn how to ignore that side of what I wanted. What made me more like myself." Kat was still holding onto her confession as her mother stretched over to cup her hand.
"She's been interested elsewhere for a while." Her mother added in. "Guess who?" She faced her husband as the man scratched his chin. There was no question to either parent what was happening before them.
"Does she know?" Her father didn't even mention the brunette. Kat faced him. "If she doesn't, I don't see any reason why you can't make this work. Infatuations comes and go honey..."
"What your father is trying to say is, are you sure?" Her mother wasn't passing judgment, trying to see if her daughter sorted through all options. "Dominique is a sweet girl but Kat, you've committed yourself to Ray and I know how sometimes the heart can lead you astray because there are temptations and..."
