So this chapter was a bit challenging for me to write because with stories you must always have constant progression. So I had to find a way for my characters to fill in Ray without basically reciting the story from scratch to you guys. But I hope I've found a balance you'll find acceptable. Enjoy.
She had only witnessed one disagreement ever with the couple. Dom had been spending time with the duo and their new puppy, her excitement for the small fluff of energy had brought her into the backyard. The brunette ran around with Bernie right on her heels, the small happy yapping falling from his mouth like music. She giggled just before hopping onto the back porch steps as the small dog whimpered. He wasn't a brand new puppy but he was new to Kat and Ray, and in turn, he was new to the brunette.
Dom scooped up the dog, petting his head before carrying him inside. The sliding glass door had brought the her into the soon to be married couple's home just as whispering caught Dom's ear. She was curious, tilting her head before slowly pacing towards the noise. Just down the hall, Ray stood at the couple's bedroom door, a scowl on his face. The brunette was confused, watching the man say a few words before a scoff had followed. It wasn't too tense, the small whispered bickering staying low to where she couldn't make out any of the words. Kat pulled the door open, her eyes gazing up at the brunette before Kat faced Ray.
"Don't forget Dom's here." The woman told him, pushing past as Bernie squirmed to get down from the brunette's arms. Kat walked over, her fingers stuffed in her pocket as she smiled. "Sorry about that."
"It's okay."
"We should head out and take Bern here for a car ride." Kat faced the small dog. "What do you say Bernie?" He barked as his tiny feet carried him to the door.
Ray paced the downstairs apartment, trailing from one end of the room to the next. Dom had taken a seat at the arm on the sofa, her eyes studying the man as he took a few breaths. He was trying to keep himself calm, words on his lips as he faced Kat.
"I hope you'll be truthful with me." He pointed out, his voice humming in the air.
"I promise." Kat's eyes softened, her own pain starting to find its way into her chest as she encouraged Ray to go on.
"Don't lie to me."
"I won't."
"When did this start?" Ray halted his steps, facing his wife just a few feet away as Dom lowered her head. She was there only because Kat had dragged her over. She didn't want to be a part of the couple's bickering but knew she was in too deep to continuously run away. They were back here, right where they started on Friday.
"A few months." Kat admitted before she took a breath. "No. Longer."
"You've been sleeping with her for how long?"
"A few months. But... I've been kissing her longer." The redhead knew that her husband was able to read between the lines, taking note that it wasn't just the quick peck on the lips as a greeting. Dom wanted to shrivel up from hearing the words being spoken aloud, knowing that Ray, the man she knew she didn't want to hurt had been standing there listening to this.
"How long?"
"I don't know." Kat shook her head. "Maybe...." If she was to tell him the truth, she had to just admit to everything. "A few years."
Silence had blanketed the group as Ray's brow furrowed. Dom had taken a breath, her eyes flicking up towards Kat before she saw the gaze she was getting out the corner of her eye. She turned to Ray, his lips pressed tightly together. If she was to apologize, now would be the best time to do so, but instead, she looked away.
