Peter stared at the faun, eyes wide. "What?" He choked.
"The drink the witch gave your brother has poisoned him." The faun replied.
Susan took a deep breath. "But - But doesn't poison kill someone straight away?" She asked.
The faun shook her head. "I'm afraid this poison is made to kill the victim slowly and, I hate to admit it, painfully." She said hesitantly. "You're brother will, (as he already has) fall ill, he'll start coughing, throwing up, he'll be really weak and in alot of pain, until the poison decides to kill him."
Peter's heart started to hammer in his chest as he stared at the faun, hardly able to believe what he was hearing.
His little brother had been poisoned.
Taking a deep breath he looked down at Edmund, who had gone completely white and looked as though he was on the edge of a panick attack.
"Ed?" Peter asked hesitantly.
Edmund took a deep breath as he glanced up at Peter, one tear escaping and rolling slowly down his cheek. "I - I'm gonna die." He choked in disbelief.
"No." Peter said quickly. "There has to be a way to stop this."
"I'll have to look it up." The faun replied. "But I'm sure there probably is a way."
Peter couldn't help the relieved sigh that escaped him as the faun said this, and leant back against the headboard, burying his hand in Edmund's hair.
"Thank you." Susan mumbled to the faun.
She smiled back at her and nodded. "I will get back to you if I find anything." She said with a bow before leaving the room.
Peter swallowed hard and as soon as she'd left looked down at Edmund, who was still lying down, staring up at the ceiling. "Ed everything's gonna be fine." He said as confidently as he could.
Edmund looked up at him. "P - Poison?" He choked.
Peter sighed sadly. "Yes Edmund." He said hesitantly. "The witch poisoned you."
Edmund took a deep breath, opening his mouth even though no sound came out.
"Ed listen." Peter choked. "Everything's gonna be alright."
Edmund took another deep breath, and then coughed. He coughed again, and again - and again until he couldn't stop.
Peter swallowed hard and moved down to sit in front of his brother, helping him to sit up and rubbing a hand up and down his back.
Edmund covered his mouth with his hand as he continued to cough, burying his face against Peter's chest.
Peter held him tightly, patting him gently on the back every now and then. "Shh." He whispered, glancing at Susan and Lucy who both looked equally worried.
After maybe two minutes Edmund finally stopped coughing. He collapsed against his brother, tears in his eyes as he took deep breaths.
"Alright." Peter whispered, slowly pulling away from his brother, only for his eyes to go wide at what he saw.
"What's wrong?" Susan asked at seeing the look on his face.
Peter didn't take his eye off of Edmund's hands.
His hands were covered in blood.
Swallowing hard Peter looked down at his own tunic, and found that the front of it had blood on too.
"Peter." Edmund choked, his voice shaking.
Peter looked up at him to see him staring at his hands. "It - It's gonna be alright." He choked.
Edmund took a deep breath, shaking his head slowly. His breathing got heavier and heavier until he was gasping for air.
"What's wrong?" Lucy asked worridley as Peter grabbed Edmund's shoulders.
"I think he's having a panic attack, I'm not sure." Susan mumbled.
"Ed, Ed look at me." Peter said quickly, gripping his brothers shoulders rather tightly.
Edmund kept gasping even as he looked up at his brother, a look of pain on his face.
"Calm down." Peter said gently. "It's gonna be alright. You just need to calm down. Just breath. Breath."
Edmund swallowed hard before going back to gasping.
Peter sighed and placed a hand gently on the side of Edmund's face, softly stroking his thumb against his cheek. "Shh." He soothed. "It's gonna be alright. Just breath. I've got you, you're safe, it's gonna be alright."
Peter continued whispering to his brother like this until he calmed down. His gasping slowly stopped and he instead took long, deep breaths, and the look of pain on his face slowly lessened.
"There you go." Peter sighed.
Edmund took another deep breath. "Sorry." He choked.
Peter shook his head. "You don't need to apologise Ed." He said slowly. "It's alright."
Edmund sighed slightly and lay back down, pulling the blanket tightly over himself.
"We will find a way to stop this okay?" Peter reassured him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
Edmund sighed. "She said I'd regret not telling her." He mumbled.
"I know Ed." Peter sighed.
Edmund shook his head. "I don't." He mumbled.
"But-" Susan hesitated. "You told her eventually?"
Edmund hesitated but nodded. "I tried to save someone." He mumbled.
"You should've just told her straight away Ed." Peter sighed.
"I couldn't." Edmund replied, shaking his head. "I wouldn't."
Peter sighed. "You're gonna be alright." He said, unsure of what else to say.
Edmund shrugged. "I suppose I deserve this." He whispered.
All three of his siblings at once objected.
"Ed no." Peter said quickly. "Why would you even think that?"
"Because I betrayed you all that's why!" Edmund exclaimed. "I almost got you all killed!"
"Almost." Susan sighed. "And it wasn't your fault."
"Don't start that again." Edmund groaned. "It was my fault."
Peter sighed. "Ed seriously." He said, pausing for a second. "If you truly think you needed to be punished for what you did. Just think, you already have. Or incase you forgot you returned from the witch with so many injuries I couldn't keep count. And then she nearly killed you at Beruna."
Edmund sighed, swallowing hard, his eyes filling with tears. "I-" He choked, shaking his head. "I don't want to die."
Peter's heart broke. "You're not going to." He said, sitting beside his brother and pulling him upright again, wrapping his arms tightly around him. "We will find a way to stop this. I promise."
