Peter groaned slightly as his eyes eventually flickered open. He at once had to close them again against the blinding light of the sun, taking a few moments to wake up properly.
The first thing he became aware of when he finally opened his eyes again was the pain, everything hurt - he was in complete agony.
His vision was slightly blurry, and he felt well and truly sick, as well as weak and exhausted.
He frowned slightly though when he became aware of someone leaning against him, their hand fisted into the material of his tunic.
Taking a deep breath he moved his head and looked down, the slight movement causing pain to shoot through his entire body. He almost regretted moving at all, until he saw who was sat beside him. It looked like Edmund.
Peter blinked. Edmund? But, Edmund was at Cair, with Susan and Lucy, in bed. Wasn't he?
Lifting his hand he placed it flat against Edmund's face, tilting his head a little, and sure enough came face to face with his brother.
Edmund was obviously unconscious, his skin as white as snow, lips stained a dark red colour and head resting limply against Peter's chest.
How in Aslan's name was Edmund here? Why, was he here?
Just then a thought struck Peter, what if Edmund wasn't unconscious? What if he was-
He swallowed hard, moving his hand down to Edmund's neck and feeling for a pulse. He held his breath as he waited, and collapsed further against the tree in relief when he felt Edmund's steady heart beat.
Letting his arm fall to his side again Peter took a deep breath, he was too tired and in too much pain to figure out at the moment why and how Edmund was here, but all that mattered was that he was there.
Peter clutched the apple in his hand, swallowing hard, he knew Edmund wouldn't be able to eat the apple until he was awake, and Peter had no idea how long that would take.
He stared down at his brother, frowning when Edmund's breath hitched, a look of discomfort appearing on his face.
"E-Ed?" Peter flinched at the sound of his own voice, raspy and hoarse, coming out as nothing more than a whisper.
Edmund's lips parted seconds later, and Peter was alarmed to see a trickle of blood run from his mouth down his chin and onto his tunic.
"Ed?" He whispered again, reaching his hand up again and patting it against his brothers cheek, knowing that he had no strength to try and shake him awake.
The blood continued to trickle down Edmund's chin, and Peter was worried about that fact that his brother wasn't waking up.
He could only watch as Edmund began to choke, mouth open wide and eyes still closed.
"Ed wake up." Peter choked, unable to understand why he wasn't already.
After a short while Peter had an idea. Using every last bit of his strength he had, he pushed away from the tree and fell flat on his back on the floor, screaming in pain as he hit the ground.
Edmund fell with him, letting out a cough when he collided with Peter's chest.
Peter, after recovering a little from the pain, lifted up his shoudler slightly, which caused Edmund to roll onto his side.
The second he did there was a hacking cough from his brother, followed by a gasp.
Peter breathed a sigh of relief, hearing Edmund start to breathe again as the rest of the blood poured from his mouth.
When Edmund's breathing returned to normal, Peter wrapped an arm around his shoulders, pulling him to his chest and holding him as tight as he could, even though it caused him agony.
Looking down his saw Edmund's eyes opened partly, a look of pure fear on his face.
"E - Ed?"
Edmund's head snapped up, and the second he saw Peter his face literally melted. "Peter." He choked, sounding so relieved it caused Peter's heart to ache.
"It's me." Peter mumbled, unable to say much, but he knew Edmund couldn't either so it was alright.
"I'm so sorry." Edmund sobbed.
"What - What for?" Peter asked, ignoring the black spots that had started to appear in his vision.
"You - You never should've gone." Edmund whispered, spitting out some more blood before continuing. "It's all my fault."
"No." Peter choked, coughing a little which caused his ribs to scream in protest. "It's not Ed."
"I shouldn't of let you go." Edmund sobbed. "Now look at you."
Peter attempted a smile. "Well you're not exactly a pretty picture yourself Ed." He whispered, forcing his words out.
Edmund shook his head. "You're injured." He choked, his eyes drooping.
Peter took a deep breath. "And that can easily be fixed with Lucy's cordial." He said. "But you can only be healed with the apple, which is exactly why you're going to eat it." He coughed again and brought the apple to Edmund's blood stained lips, only to see that his brother was once again, unconscious.
"No Ed." Peter choked, his arm falling limply back to his side as he clutched the apple. "Eddy wake up."
He nudged his brother with his shoulder, but it made no difference, Edmund remained unconscious.
"Ed you need to eat the apple." Peter choked. If he was honest he had no idea how long it would be until Edmund died, having lost track of all time since he first passed out, and he was really starting to worry.
Swallowing hard Peter flinched at the pain from his stomach, using way too much strength to roll onto his side, Edmund falling limp to the floor, still clutched against Peter's chest.
The pain lessened if only slightly now that he didn't have the weight of Edmund on top of him, but it was still enough pain for tears to start rolling uncontrollably down his cheeks and for his eyes to start drooping.
The last thing he was pretty sure he saw before he passed out, was Susan and Lucy, running towards them, Lucy already reaching for her cordial.☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆
