Susan's heart started to pound as she stared down at her brother, who had a look of pain and complete panick on his face.
"Ed come on." She said quickly, loosening her grip around her brother in a hope that it would help him breathe. "Breathe."
Susan's eyes filled with tears as she watched Edmund, he was trying, she knew he was trying, but he wasn't succeeding, that was obvious.
He gripped the sleeve of Susan's dress with as much strength as he could, his mouth opening a closing as he struggled to get just the tiniest bit of air.
"Come on breathe." Susan said quickly, panicking. "You can do it Ed, come on, just a little breath."
Edmund's grip got even tighter as his eyes slipped shut, his mouth now staying open and his back arching slightly in an attempt to breathe just the tiniest bit.
"Please Ed, please." Susan whispered, two tears rolling down her cheeks as she tightened her grip around Edmund's shoulders in an attempt to keep him upright. "I promised Peter I wouldn't let you give up." She said firmly. "Now breathe. Come on, I know you can do it."
Tears rolled none stop to Edmund's cheeks as he gripped Susan's dress, eyes squeezed shut. He'd heard Susan... just, and he really was trying to breathe, but he just couldn't draw in air.
"Come on." Susan choked. "Breathe."
She just kept whispering those three words over and over again, having no idea what to do.
She waited for maybe a minute longer, thinking that Edmund should've passed out by now, and looking down saw that he was very close to doing so. His face was red with effort, even if it was still as white as paper, and the tears were still rolling down his cheeks.
"Breathe." Susan mumbled into his ear. "You can do it Ed. Don't give up."
She took a deep breath and then heard Edmund take the tiniest of breaths, causing him to relax - if only slightly.
Susan's eyes went wide. "That's it." She whispered. "And another one."
Edmund let out a small gasp, eyes snapping open.
Susan waited as Edmund gasped again, until he was gulping in air, more tears appearing in his eyes.
"There you go." Susan sighed, rubbing a hand up and down her brothers back until his breathing grew even and he collapsed against his sister.
"Thank Aslan." Susan muttered to herself, reaching up and placing a hand on the top of Edmund's head, stroking his hair out of his eyes.
Edmund's head fell against Susan's shoulder, blood trickling from his mouth and down his chin. He let out a small sob, his breathing heavy as he sat there.
"It's okay." Susan whispered in his ear. "I've got you. You're okay."
Edmund swallowed hard, nodding his head slightly as his eyes slid shut.
Susan sighed and reached over, grabbing the cup of water that was on the bedside table. "Here." She whispered, placing the rim of the cup to Edmund's blood stained lips.
Edmund managed to take a few sips before he coughed.
Susan quickly removed the cup, fearing what she thought would almost definitely happen next.
But to her relief Edmund didn't continue coughing, and just relaxed against her, his steady breathing the only thing to be heard.
Susan bit her lip and placed the cup back on the bedside table, before wrapping both her arms around Edmund's shoulder.
"P-"
She looked down at the voice, raspy and quiet. "What?" She whispered to her brother, stroking his hair lightly.
"Peter." Edmund gasped, barely getting the words past his lips. "He - was - attacked."
Susan frowned. "What do you mean?" She asked gently.
Edmund let out a sob. "He - He's dead." He choked.
Susan took a deep breath, Edmund's dream. "No Ed, he's not." She said quickly. "It was only a dream, it wasn't real."
Edmund stared up at her, looking unsure. "Promise?" He whispered.
Susan nodded. "I promise Ed." She said firmly. "It was just a dream, Peter is alive and perfectly fine."
Edmund relaxed once again, letting out a sigh of pure relief. "What's - time?" He gasped.
Susan glanced over at the clock. "9am." She mumbled. "Do you fancy some breakfast?" She asked after a moment.
Edmund hesitated. "Hungry." He nodded. "But - But it hurts."
Susan sighed sadly. "I know it does." She sighed. "How about a smoothie or something?"
Edmund thought for a moment before nodding. "Okay." He whispered.
Susan smiled a little. "We'll wait for Lucy to come and then I'll go and get you one." She decided. "After what just happened I don't want to leave you alone."
Edmund swallowed hard. "I - I couldn't breathe." He choked.
Susan sighed. "I know Ed." She whispered. "But it's okay, it's over."
Edmund took a deep breath as if to prove to himself that what Susan said was right. "Yeah." He choked.
Susan looked up when the door opened and Lucy walked in, securing a hair pin as she stepped into the room. "Hey." She sighed.
Susan smiled. "Sleep well?" She asked as her little sister joined her and Edmund on the bed.
Lucy shrugged. "Not really." She mumbled. "Maybe five hours?"
Susan sighed. "I'm gonna go get Edmund some breakfast." She said. "Reckon you could stay with him for a moment?"
Lucy nodded. "Sure." She said without hesitation.
Susan smiled in thanks. "Ed?" She mumbled.
Edmund nodded and lay down on the bed, Susan propping his head up against the pillows. "I won't be long." She whispered, before walking across the room and leaving, closing the door quietly behind her.
Lucy sighed and lay down beside her brother. "You okay?" She asked when Edmund glanced down at her.
Edmund swallowed hard and nodded, deciding not to speak.
"Glad to hear." Lucy mumbled, even though she knew her brother was lying.
Sighing to herself She curled up beside him, wrapping an arm loosely around his waist. "Love you Ed." She whispered.
Edmund smiled to himself. "Love you - you too."☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆
