Peter sighed as he stared out at the stars through the window, his hand placed firmly on Edmund's shoudler.
Edmund was just laying there, staring up at his brother and trying to keep his breathing even.
Maybe ten minutes later Susan and Lucy entered the room, the faun that had figured out what was going on with them.
Peter immediately stood from the edge of the bed. "Please tell me there's a way to stop this." He choked.
Susan sighed. "Yeah, we've found a way." She said.
Peter breathed a sigh of relief and sat back down, glancing at Edmund who couldn't help but smile slightly. "How?" Peter asked, turning to his sisters as they joined him by the bed.
Susan turned questioningly to the faun, who nodded and took a deep breath. "For this to stop." She said slowly. "Someone is gonna have to journey out of Narnia, to the west, and get an apple from a tree in a garden. Which your brother must then eat."
Peter frowned. "Sounds easy enough." He shrugged.
The faun sighed. "I'm afraid it won't be easy at all." She said. "We dont know very much about the west, but we do know that it's extremely dangerous."
Peter took a deep breath. "Okay." He said slowly. "How long will it take to get there and back?"
The faun though for a moment. "It's hard to say." She mumbled. "But probably around three to four weeks."
Peter's mouth dropped open. "Weeks?!" He exclaimed.
The faun nodded. "I'm afraid so." She sighed.
"And - And how long until the poison-" Peter swallowed hard. "You know-"
"That's hard to say as well." The faun mumbled. "But, judging by the state your brother is in now, around four or five weeks."
Peter breathed a sigh of relief, gripping Edmund's shoulder as tightly as he dared.
"Pe - Peter."
Peter looked around, a questioning frown on his face.
Edmund swallowed hard. "T - Tell h - her." He choked.
Peter looked confused for a moment before he nodded. "Yeah, right." He said, turning back to the faun. "The white witch gave him the drink twice."
The faun frowned. "Twice?" She questioned.
Peter only nodded.
"Oh dear." The faun whispered.
"What?" Lucy said, a look of worry in her bright blue eyes.
The faun sighed. "I'm afraid, if you've been given it twice, it'll speed up the process."
Peter's heart started to pound. "So - So now how long does he have?" He forced out.
The faun hesitated. "Two weeks." She sighed.
Peter's eyes went wide. "But - But the journey into the west takes three to four." He choked.
The faun sighed and nodded. "Yes, yes it does." She said before: "I'll leave you all to talk this over."
Peter watched her leave before turning back to Edmund, who looked absolutely terrified.
"Ed?" He mumbled quietly.
Edmund looked up at him. "Two - Two weeks?" He choked.
Peter nodded slowly. "Yeah." He breathed.
"But - Journey takes - three - four?" Edmund just about managed to say.
Peter nodded slowly before taking a deep breath. "How about." He said slowly. "I go and get the apple? I'll be as quick as I can."
Edmund's eyes went wide and he quickly shook his head. "D - Dangerous." He choked.
Peter sighed. "It'll be alright." He mumbled. "I'll be fine."
"Please." Edmund said, his voice not much more than a whisper. "I - Don't want you to - to get hurt."
Peter shook his head slightly, brushing Edmund's hair from his forehead. "I won't get hurt Ed." He mumbled softly. "I'll be fine. But if I don't go and get the apple you won't be."
Edmund stared up at him for a very long while before swallowing hard. "Don't - Don't leave - me." He choked, gripping Peter's other hand that wasn't rested on the top of his head.
"Oh - Eddy." Peter's voice cracked when he used the old nickname, busying himself with brushing the hair off Edmund's forehead.
Edmund stared at him, before a small smile made It's way onto his face.
Peter smiled softly back. "I won't be gone for long alright? Just a few weeks." He said. "And I'm sure the girls will look after you."
Susan nodded. "You know we will Ed." She said gently, smiling.
Edmund sighed, letting out a small cough.
Everyone froze, but luckily Edmund relaxed and just sighed. "You - Won't be long?" He choked.
Peter shook his head. "I'll be back before you know it." He whispered.
Edmund seemed to think for a moment before nodding. "O - Okay."
Peter breathed a sigh of relief, smiling slightly at his brother before pressing his hand flat against his forehead, frowning slightly. "Su?" He asked.
"Yeah?" Susan replied.
"Can you get some cold water and a flannel?" Peter asked.
Susan nodded a little. "Sure." She said, disappearing into the bathroom.
Peter sighed as he turned back to Edmund, a worried look on his face.
Edmund frowned up at him, silently asking him what was wrong.
Peter shook his head with a forced smile. "It's okay." He whispered. "You're temperature's just really high again."
Edmund sighed slightly, letting out another cough, and just like the other times, he carried on until he couldn't stop.
Peter didn't know why, but at that moment he completely froze. He just sat staring at his brother as he coughed, tears blurring his vision.
Lucy frowned slightly. "Peter?" She asked, her heart starting to pound. "Pete?!"
Peter just stared at his brother, unaware that Edmund had actually started to choke.
Lucy, as quickly as she could, shuffled across the bed and tried her hardest to pull Edmund into a sitting position, but she wasn't strong enough.
Next minute Susan walked out the bathroom, her eyes going wide in shock at what she saw. "Peter!" She shouted as loudly as she could.
That did it, Peter squeezed his eyes shut for a moment before jumping into action.
As carefully and gently as he could, he slowly lifted Edmund into a sitting position, and could've started crying when a trickle of blood ran from his mouth down his chin, and Edmund soon coughed up more, taking deep breaths as he tried to stop coughing.
Peter held him as he coughed, running a hand up and down his back gently, but it was no use, Edmund then collapsed against Peter. He stopped coughing as his eyes slid shut.
Peter took a deep breath before looking up at his sister. "I'm going to get the apple."
