- Two weeks later -
Edmund sighed warmly as he headed for his room, intent on finding Peter.
He still couldn't quite push the feeling of how good it was to be up and out of bed, even though he'd been wondering the castle for nearly a week.
Peter though was still unfortunately in bed, even though - to Edmund - he looked absolutely fine, almost back to his usual self.
But Susan still hadn't let him up, and Peter knew better than to argue with Susan, so he'd stayed in bed... well, that's what Edmund thought.
When he entered his and Peter's room, he saw Peter's bed empty, the blankets pulled back and draping over the side of the bed.
Edmund's heart skipped a beat. "Peter?" He asked slowly, his eyes wide with worry. "Pete?!" He repeated when there was no answer.
"Out here!" Came the voice of his brother - from the balcony.
Dashing across the room he ran out onto the balcony, to see Peter stood, leaning against the railing, fully dressed with a smile on his face.
"Peter?" Edmund questioned, a small frown on his face as he walked over and stood beside his brother.
Peter rolled his eyes. "Please don't tell me to get back into bed." He muttered.
Edmund raised an eyebrow in amusement. "I wasn't going to." He said. "I was just going to tell you, er - oh let me think - Susan is going to kill you!"
Peter couldn't help but chuckle at this. "But I feel completely fine!" He said.
"I know that!" Edmund muttered. "But you know what Susan's like! She'll kill you if she finds you up, dressed and outside!"
"Weren't you glad to get out of bed?" Peter questioned, smirking.
"Well of course." Edmund sighed. "But atleast I waited for the all clear from Susan."
"I'm the High King." Peter chuckled. "I can do whatever I want."
Edmund stared at him for a while before rolling his eyes playfully. "Of course." He said, bowing his head.
Peter chuckled and wrapped an arm around his brothers shoulders, pulling him close to his side.
"Glad you're alright Ed." He whispered.
Edmund swallowed hard, forcing a small smile. "Me too." He mumbled. "But I've got you to thank for that."
Peter placed a small kiss to the side of his head. "You don't have to thank me." He whispered.
"Yes I do Peter." Edmund sighed. "You saved my life! And almost died in the process!"
Peter stared at him. "Well, you did too." He choked.
"When?" Edmund asked, looking genuinely confused.
Peter sighed. "At Beruna." He said slowly.
A look of realisation made its way onto Edmund's face. "Oh." He whispered.
"Yeah, oh." Peter sighed. "I never did thank you for that."
"You're joking right?" Edmund exclaimed. "Yes you did! Like, a hundred time!"
Peter chuckled slightly. "And no matter how many times I say it, it will never be enough." He smirked.
Edmund rolled his eyes playfully before the two fell silent.
"Peter?" Edmund asked after a rather long time.
"Hmm?" Peter replied, staring out at the woods.
"Promise you'll tell the truth?" Edmund said slowly.
Peter frowned, looking down at him. "What do you mean?" He asked, confused.
Edmund swallowed hard, hesitating. "Why - Why did Aslan die on the stone table?" He said.
Peter froze, staring down at his little brother. "I-" He choked, but then stopped.
Edmund's eyes slowly closed as he dropped his head. "It was because of me, wasn't it?" He whispered.
Peter took a deep breath before sighing sadly. "It wasn't because of you." He said.
"But he died to save me, didn't he?" Edmund asked, looking back up at his brother.
Peter hesitated, but sighed. "Yes he did." He said slowly.
Edmund swallowed thickly. "Why would he do that?" He choked.
"Because he loves you Edmund." Peter replied. "Because he forgave you. That's why."
"But he died, for me." Edmund whispered.
"He came back to life Ed." Peter told him gently. "And he did it willingly."
"He still did it." Edmund muttered.
"Ed come on, don't you think you're carrying around enough guilt." Peter sighed.
Edmund snorted. "You don't know that half of it." He muttered, tears somehow finding their way into his eyes.
"Look, everything turned out fine." Peter said. "Everyone survived, didn't they?"
"I guess so." Edmund whispered.
Peter nodded slowly. "Exactly." He said, tightening his grip around Edmund's shoulders. "Don't beat yourself up over this, please."
Edmund sighed and turned so that he had his face buried against Peter's chest. "I love you." He whispered, his arms wrapping around his brothers waist.
Peter smiled, hugging him back. "I love you too Eddy." He mumbled. "And I'm glad you're alright."
Edmund swallowed hard. "I'm glad you're alright too." He choked. "When - When I found you, I thought you wouldn't make it."
"Hey." Peted soothed when Edmund let out a choked sob. "It's okay, I'm alive. It's alright."
"I thought you were gonna die." Edmund sobbed. "I-"
"Ed come on." Peter cut him off, kissing the top of his head. "Everything's alright. Everyone's alright."
Edmund cried into Peter's chest, not saying anything else as Peter whispered comfortingly in his ear.
Peter waited for the tears to subside before leading Edmund off the balcony and into the room.
Closing the door behind him, Peter headed for his bed, keeping his arm firmly around Edmund's shoulders.
Edmund made no protest as Peter gently pushed him into bed and under the covers, climbing in beside him.
The second he lay down, Edmund wrapped an arm around his waist and moved as close as he could, resting his head against his chest.
Peter smiled a little and wrapped an arm tightly around his shoulders, placing a kiss to the top of his head once again.
"Love you." Edmund whispered, his eyes slipping shut.
Peter's smile widened as he tightened his grip around his little brother. "I love you too Eddy." He mumbled, his face now buried against Edmund's hair. "I love you so, so much."- THE END -
