Peter ran as fast as he could towards the main entrance of Cair Paravel, apple gripped tightly in his hand.
He eventually reached the doors, which were immediately opened for him.
Bursting into the castle he wasted no time in trying to catch his breath and instead headed for his room, where Edmund would be.
He ran as fast as he could, going up the stairs two at a time until he reached the double doors.
He hesitated for just a second before opening the doors, stepping into the room, his eyes already looking for his brother.
He soon found him too, laying on his bed  eyes closed and skin pale.
Peter's heart skipped a beat as he saw Susan and Lucy, huddled together at the end of the bed, both crying into each other shoulder.
Peter's eyes went wide as he ran to his brother, collapsing onto the bed beside him. "Ed?" He asked, his hand landing on Edmund's chest. "Edmund?!" He said again when his brother didn't respond.
He waited, and waited and waited some more, but he never once felt a heart beat from his little brother.
Tears filled his eyes as he let the apple drop to the floor, where it landed with a hard thud. "Eddy?" He choked, placing both hands on either side of his brothers face.
"He's gone Peter." Came Susan's voice from behind him. "You were too late."
Peter didn't take his eyes off his brother, his tears making their way quickly down his cheeks. "No." He whispered, his voice shaking. "No, please Ed."
But Edmund didn't move.
"I'm so sorry." Peter gasped, sobbing by now. "I'm sorry Ed, I - I was too late, I'm so - so sorry... Edmund."

Peter's eyes shot open as he gasped, immediately becoming aware of someone watching him.
Sitting up slowly and looking to his left he found Philip, sat staring at him with a concerned look on his face.
"Majesty?" He asked slowly. "Are you okay?"
Peter took a deep breath before swallowing hard, nodding his head a little. "Yeah." He breathed. "I'm fine."
He took another deep breath, glancing up at the sky. At seeing it was getting light he turned back to Philip. "Do you reckon we could carry on?" He asked.
Philip nodded without any hesitation. "Of course your majesty." He said.
Peter smiled a little. "Just call me Peter." He said. "It'll be alot easier."
Philip nodded. "As you wish Peter." He said.
Peter sighed a little and stood, brushing down his trousers and putting out the fire with some water from a nearby stream.
Soon after they were ready to leave, and Peter, taking a deep breath climbed up onto Philip.
It was just a dream. It was just a dream.
He swallowed hard, it wasn't real, it was a dream. Edmund was alive, and he would make it back in time, if it was the last thing he ever did.

"Peter!" Edmund called as loudly as he could, running through the woods.
He had no idea how he was out, or even standing, but he knew he just had to find Peter, before it was too late. "Peter!" He screamed again, his voice cracking, panting as he ran. "Peter! Please!"
Edmund glanced around the surrounding woods, and nearly fainted in relief when he saw his older brother, sat against a tree, Philip no where to be seen.
But something wasn't right, as he got closer Edmund saw that Peter's eyes were closed, his skin pale and his tunic slashed open straight across his chest.
"Peter?" Edmund whispered, his voice shaking even worse now.
He soon fell to his knees in front of Peter, his eyes going wide.
By the looks of it, his brother had been attacked by wolves, if the claw marks going across his chest were anything to go by.
"Peter?!" Edmund said quickly, grabbing his brothers shoulders and giving him a hard shake, but Peter didn't respond in the slightest. "Peter!" Edmund cried, tears in his eyes. It was only then did he realise that Peter had a bright red apple clutched tightly in his hand.
He'd got the apple, but it had cost him his life.
"Peter." Edmund sobbed. "Please, Peter please."
After a long while of Edmund's begging, the young king let out another cry and curled into his older brothers arms, burying his face against his chest.
And there he sat, for hours upon hours, just crying, and holding his brother so tight he thought he'd never let go.

Edmund's eyes snapped open as he let out a terrified gasp, sitting bolt upright in bed.
Susan jumped up from where she'd been sat on Peter's bed reading, and dashed over to her brother, sitting on the bed beside him.
"Edmund?" She asked slowly, her voice full of concern.
Edmund sat there, panting as he struggled to breath properly.
Susan could do nothing but watch as Edmund started to cough, doubling over and covering his mouth with his hand.
Susan swallowed hard and moved over to sit beside him, pulling him close to her and rubbing her hand slowly and gently up and down his back, giving it the occasional pat as well. "It's okay." She choked as Edmund let out more hacking coughs, his hands already stained red.
Susan, with one hand - her other arm wrapped tightly around her brother - just about managed to pour a cup of water and gently brought it to Edmund's lips, pushing his hands carefully out of the way.
Edmund tried to take a sip, Susan knew he tried, but he was coughing so much that the task was completely impossible.
"Oh Ed." Susan choked, her voice full of fear... she didn't know what to do.
She pulled Edmund closer, kissing the top of his head, waiting and hoping that he'd calm down soon.
After maybe two minutes Edmund went completely rigid in Susan's arms, causing Susan's heart to skip a beat. "Ed?" She choked, glancing down at her brother... but she wished she never did.
Edmund's eyes were wide open, staring up at Susan. His mouth was open, and he wasn't breathing.
The look in Edmund's eyes was nothing but fear, as well as total and utter panick.
Susan's eyes went as wide as Edmund's, her brother was trying to breath, trying to get the tiniest amount of air, but he couldn't.
Edmund couldn't breath.
