Stay strong

"Ed?" Susan whispered, sitting down on the edge of the bed next to her brother, who was fast asleep.
It was now around 9pm and Susan really wanted Edmund to eat something seeming as he'd been asleep since that morning.
Edmund frowned slightly, letting out a weak cough before burying himself further underneath the blankets.
Susan sighed sadly, placing her hand gently on his shoulder. "Edmund." She mumbled, placing the plate she had on the bedside table.
Edmund let out a small sort of sigh as his eyes flickered half way open, staring up at Susan. "Hi." Edmund choked, wincing at the pain it caused to even talk.
Susan smiled gently. "Hey." She whispered. "I thought you might be hungry? Seeming as you haven't eaten since Peter left."
Edmund stared at her for a moment before sighing and slowly nodding his head.
Susan kept the smile on her face as she reached for the plate, which had two slices of toast on it, spread with butter and jam. "This alright?" She asked gently as Edmund slowly sat up.
Edmund shrugged a little. "Don't know." He mumbled, flinching yet again.
Susan sighed. "Well here you go." She said, handing Edmund the plate.
Edmund gave her a forced smile and took a small bite of toast, swallowing with so much effort his eyes filled with tears.
Susan sighed sadly as she watched him eat, until he shook his head and handed her back the plate.
Susan sighed at seeing he'd only eaten one piece, but placed the plate back on the table. "You're gonna have to start eating more Ed." She mumbled.
Edmund sighed as he leant against the headboard. "It - hurts." He choked, his voice raspy.
Susan bit her lip. "I know." She mumbled, before reaching up and placing the back of her hand to her brothers forehead. She sighed at feeling how high his temperature was again and stood from the bed, giving Edmund a reassuring smile as she walked into the bathroom.
Edmund waited in silence until she came back, a bowl of water in one hand and a cloth in the other.
Sighing slightly to herself Susan sat back on the edge of the bed, wetting the cloth before wringing it and pressing it to Edmund's forehead.
Edmund relaxed a little, laying down properly and pulling the blanket up around his neck, letting out a few small coughs.
"Better?" Susan asked gently, smiling as she dabbed at Edmund's forehead with the cloth.
Edmund nodded a little. "Thanks." He choked.
Susan smiled at him. "You know what." She said after a little while. "I'm gonna go make some hot chocolate. You'll definitely enjoy that."
Edmund managed to grin back up at her and nodded his head slightly. "Sounds - great." He choked.
Susan nodded back. "I wont be long." She whispered, placing the bowl and cloth on the bedside table. "You'll be alright?" She asked hesitantly.
Edmund nodded. "Yeah." He breathed.
Susan nodded a little and placed a quick kiss to the top of Edmund's head before slipping quietly out of the room.
Edmund sighed a little, staring up at the ceiling, wondering where Peter was at that moment.
Thinking of his brother made tears appear in his eyes, but he quickly blinked them away, sighing as he did.
He looked over when he heard the door open again, expecting to see Susan, but instead Lucy stepped into the room, dressed in a long night dress and a silvery pink dressing gown.
At seeing that her older brother was awake she smiled slightly and walked over, climbing onto the bed and curling up beside him.
"Hey Lu." Edmund choked, wrapping an arm around his little sister. "Sh - Shouldn't you be asleep?" He just about managed to get out.
Lucy sighed as she rested her head on Edmund's shoulder. "I couldn't." She whispered.
Edmund's face fell, knowing immediately why she couldn't sleep, and immediately feeling guilty about it. "I'm-"
"Don't talk Ed." Lucy mumbled. "I know it hurts you."
Edmund sighed but did as she said, placing a small kiss to the top of her head.
Lucy smiled and leant up to kiss his cheek, before curling into a ball beside him and, to Edmund's surprise, falling asleep.

Peter sighed sadly as he sat leant against a tree, staring at the small camp fire he'd only just managed to light.
As he sat there, Philip already asleep, he couldn't help but think about his brother and if he was alright.
Shaking his head he told himself that of course he was, Susan and Lucy were with him and he knew they'd do anything to keep him alive until he got back.
He suddenly felt a surge of anger rush through him when he thought of how the witch had poisoned Edmund, and if she was still alive then she'd be in big trouble.
Why an earth would the witch poison Edmund? After all she'd already done to him, after all the pain she put him through.
Forcing back his tears he let out a quiet sigh, reaching into one of the bags and grabbing an apple, they'd both passed on stopping for dinner because Peter wanted to atleast get out of Narnia in the first three days.
He sat there and nibbled at the apple, watching the flames of the fire.
He wondered what an earth his parents would think if they could see him and his siblings now, as Kings and Queens.
Peter smiled lightly as he imagined the look on their faces, sighing as he rested his head back against the trunk.
After a while he threw his apple core into some nearby bushes and lay down in the soft moss covering the ground around the tree, resting his head against his arm.
His eyes slipped shut the second he lay down. "Night Ed." He whispered into the silence. "Stay strong."
