“Yes… “She said, but thought, ‘You could use a few words, you know.’
As if reading her mind, he promptly complimented her. “You look beautiful, Faith. You always do.”
Her cheeks flushed and she felt butterflies in her stomach. They shared a silent, intimate moment until Haylee interrupted. “Guys! Get a room.”
Liam rolled his eyes and warned her, before taking Faith’s hand and escorting her to the car. She sat down beside Haylee, who nudged her constantly. Liam drove. Throughout the ride, he stole glances at his ladylove in the interior rear view mirror, and sometimes, she caught him looking and smiled shyly. The fact that he couldn’t keep his eyes off her made her feel very special.
They arrived at the party a little before the scheduled time. Liam stepped out of the car and everybody became aware of his presence. He warned them to not take any pictures, and they promptly stepped away. The effect he had on people from the industry made it obvious that he was very powerful. Faith liked that.
He guided his sister and girlfriend inside, and excused himself for a while. Haylee and Faith ventured inside. Faith saw that this party was very different from the Halloween party she had attended in Paris. There were lights, normally dressed people, and nobody was dancing.
“This is so boring.” Haylee made a face. “Just walk along and fake a smile.” She grinned, holding up a glass of wine.
“Yeah, how formal. I wish we could dance.” Faith agreed with Haylee.
“You like to dance?” Haylee eagerly asked.
“Yeah, I love dancing! Liam does too.”
“And so do I! Wow, what are the chances?” Haylee chuckled. “You are exactly like me! We’ll have a mini dance party once we get home. This party is like blah.”
“Isn’t that Haylee Armstrong?” One person said.
“Yeah, who’s that with her?” said another. They clearly didn’t recognize Faith without her vampire makeup on.
“Must be a country bumpkin.” Another laughed. “Look at how nervous she is.”
“She’s pretty though.”
“Yeah, but look at her. She can’t even carry herself properly.”
People kept saying things about Faith. She pretended like she didn’t hear them, but it definitely felt bad. True, she was nervous. This was her first time at a party like this. Still, she carried herself a lot better than she did at the last one back in Paris. Haylee was always there with her, never leaving her side, as she knew that her friend must be a little nervous. They took photos together, and Haylee bitched about some celebrities who walked past them. They were having fun so far, but then Haylee accidentally spilled wine on her dress.
“Shit. I’ll go clean this up.” Haylee told Faith and asked her to stay where she was.
Faith watched her walk away and sighed. She wasn’t feeling comfortable at this party. She wondered where Liam was, and decided she would go look for him. As she turned around, she collided with a woman.
“I’m so sorry, I…” Her words failed to leave her mouth as she recognized the face. Those eyes, the perfectly curled black hair, and those kohl lined eyes. All decked up in a black dress, complete with full red lips, there she stood, not very tall, but full of pride. “Scarlett.” She took in a deep breath. This party just kept getting worse.
“And you would be?” She said arrogantly and eyed Faith from head to toe in disgust.
“That’s not really your business, excuse me.” Faith sharply answered and turned to leave. She remembered that this was the same woman who had broken Liam’s heart so ruthlessly for her own selfish needs.
