Chapter 41

"What did my mom want to talk to you about? Don't tell me she gave you the talk that Alaric gave us," Hope says as Lizzie gets in the car.

"No, nothing like that... She was just making sure I won't break your heart like that little bitch Lan-"

"Lizzie," Hope warns. She knows what he did was wrong but, she doesn't want Lizzie calling him names or anything. She didn't want to let her go down to his level, no matter how much she wanted to punch him. "What he did was wrong but it's in the past."

"It happened like 3 weeks ago," Lizzie states, "And what happened in the cafeteria-"

"Just let it go, okay?" Hope stated.

"Okay..."

Josie listened to the conversation not wanting to say anything. She agreed what Landon did was completely wrong but she knew how terrifying Lizzie can be when you hurt someone that she loves, so she knows he's not going to talk to them any time soon. Well if he was smart he wouldn't.

They arrived at the school and Josie ran off to find Penelope who was in the library studying for a science test she had in two hours. When Josie found her she went up behind her and covered her eyes.

"Guess who," Josie said quietly because they were in the library.

"Hmm... who could it be? Is it my beautiful girlfriend who I adore so much?" Josie uncovered her eyes and Penelope looked up to see her. Josie leaned down and gave Penelope a quick kiss on the lips.

Josie then moved to sit down next to her.

"So... has your dad contacted you at all?" Josie asked watching her girlfriend read.

"No, but I get it. He's trying not to draw any attention to himself and contacting me might get him in danger," Penelope said still focused on the science textbook.

"Still..."

"Umm could we not talk about this right now?Please?"

"Yeah of course, sorry for bringing it up."

"No, it's fine I just don't want to think about him right now," Penelope says looking up and making eye contact with Josie.

"Yeah, that makes a lot of sense."

"Hey umm, do you want to go to the lake with me tonight?" Penelope asked changing the subject.

"Yes, of course. I'll just have to ask my dad, he'll probably say yes because he loves you, I'm sure he wouldn't mind me skipping family dinner."

"Okay, perfect." The bell rings when Penelope finished. The two walk into English together and take their usual spots. About a minute later the late bell rings.

"Hey, is Lizzie sick today?" Penelope asked noticing the girl wasn't in her seat.

"No, why?" Josie asked.

"She's not in class."

"Oh, she's probably with Hope."

"Oh..." Her eyes widen, "OH"

The teacher clears his throat to get the classes attention. "I know that Homecoming is coming up so most of you are probably thinking about that instead of listening to me, but I do have an assignment for you to do this weekend. I want you to right a research essay. At least 4000 words. Don't worry it won't be due until next Thursday, giving you all about a week and I expect everyone to do it."

A kid raises his hand. "Yes," he points at the kid.

"What are we researching?"

"That's the fun part. You get to decide, I won't give you a topic but I will have examples up on the board."

"Why can't you just give us a topic?"

"Because in life people usually don't give you topics to look up. You come up with that yourself... Now get to it."

Lizzie was currently pressed up against the wall of the janitors closet making out with Hope. It had been something that had happened a few times now. Neither of them every wanted to get out of the small space but they knew they had to after they heard the bell for first period ring. "God... can't we just stay in here for a little bit longer," Hope said.

"I mean, we could go somewhere else..." Lizzie whispered.

"Like?"

"I don't know, the park, or maybe the lake?"

"Babe, as much as I would like that we have to get to class."

"Ugh, can we at least ditch first period? I really don't want to go today."

"Okay, we can skip first."
