Chapter 31

Penelope stormed out and quickly turned on her bike. She was still shaking and crying. Her dad was alive this whole time and he didn't even try to reach out. Not even once. She had to try and find him now. Her goal was no longer to find the murderer (who didn't exist), it was to find her father.

Penelope was in no condition to ride this bike and Josie noticed this. "Let me drive, okay?" Josie said softly to her girlfriend. Penelope just nodded and let Josie take her spot in front. "Where do you want to go?"

"Anywhere, I just can't stay here," Penelope lets out.

"Okay," Josie nods and starts driving to the only place that she could think of.

(With Lizzie and Alaric)

"I'm going to miss you so much when you go off to college," Alaric states holding his daughter, "you have to promise to call me every week okay?"

"Yeah dad of course, I will also come and visit whenever I can, but it's still months away,"she stated.

"I know, I'm just going to be so lonely up here," He admits. He then thinks for a second, "Maybe I should get a dog." This caused Lizzie to laugh a little. " I'm going to miss you guys so much."

"We still have a few more months together, I'm not leaving that soon."

"But months turn into weeks and soon you'll be leaving in a couple of days. Time really does go by fast. Before I know it you'll be marrying a wonderful young man," he pauses," or woman and then you won't need me anymore."

"I'm always going to need you, always."

"In a few years you might think differently, you have your whole life ahead of you and I'm just going to be you father."

"Dad, I love you and that is most likely never going to change, it didn't change because of the alcohol and it won't change now."

"Okay," He states. He believed her and she was telling him the truth. "Crap, I forgot I was going to meet with my friend today in like an hour, I gotta go sweetie but I love you," He gets up and kisses the top of her head before he leaves. Lizzie decides to text Hope when she got to her room.

(With Penelope and Josie)

Josie pulls up at an abandoned cabin near the lake. "Do you want to talk about it?" She asked while she's taking off her helmet and turned her body to face her.

"I've spent years trying to find a murderer that doesn't even fucking exist. I've wasted so many years and this whole time he was alive. Why the hell did he leave? I had to grow up without a father. My mom had to live without her husband. The thing is he didn't have to fucking leave... he chose to. Sure he was in debt but he didn't even think about asking for help. He didn't even think about us, he didn't think about how this was affect us. He said that he did this because he loved us but if he really loved us he wouldn't have left."

"Maybe he thought this was the best thing for you."

"Yeah growing up without a father is definitely the best thing for me..." she said sarcastically I could feel the pain in her voice, "He was too much of a coward to face these people and pay back whatever he owed so he faked his own death."

"Penelope..."

"He never once tried to contact us. It's been years, this whole time everyone thought that he was dead. But, no, he's still alive and breathing. Oh and he's coming to mystic falls soon."

"Then we're going to find him."

"What?" Penelope questioned.

"Yeah, we are going to find him and ask him why he left you," Josie stated making Penelope look up at her.

"What if we can't? What happens if we do and the answer he gives isn't the answer I want to hear?"

"Then you will still know why." Josie states grabbing a hold of her hand. Penelope had no words. "Isn't that why you wanted to find the murderer because you wanted to know why he did it?"

"That and to put him in jail."

"You will still get your answer but just from a different person." Penelope kissed Josie

"Thank you," Penelope states.

"For?"

"Being an awesome girlfriend and helping me find my dad."

"Well I really like you Penelope."

"And I really like you Josie," She says as she kissed her. They both get off the bike and walk into the cabin. It had blankets and furniture even though it was abandoned. A lot of people throw party's and stuff here.

Josie drags Penelope to sit down on the blanket on the floor. Not really caring what could be on it at the moment. They spent the next few hours talking about simple things and getting to know each other. Eventually Penelope gets a text from an unknown person.
