Dealing With The Haters: Tin and Can

FIVE YEARS OLD

Tin watched as Nova and Frankie played tag in the backyard of the house, the little shit has been Nova's friend since he and Nova were three and unfortunately Tin thinks that he's going to be in their lives for a long time. They were babysitting Frankie because Lynn's mother is in the hospital so she flew back to the US while Johnny is working till seven. No one was able to watch him so Can offered to take him till Johnny got off work.

"Stop spying on them and come set the table." Can said. Tin took one last look before going to set the table for lunch.

"I can't wait to for the boy to leave." Tin asked.

"Why do you insist on calling him boy?" Can said. "You know his name is Frankie and he is a nice boy."

"I don't care what his name I don't like him." Tin said.

"He hasn't done anything to you and he's your daughter's best friend and if you mess this up you will be sleeping in the guest room for the rest of your life." Can said. Tin came up behind him and started kissing the side of his neck.

"Do you think you could handle yourself without my touch?" He said sliding his hands over Can's body. Can took a deep breath to calm himself before he grabbed Tin's hands.

"If you make him feel not welcome in this house I will manage it." Can said before pushing his hands away and moving away from him so he could put the Mango Sticky Rice on two kid plates.

Tin knew that what Can said was true so he would try to be welcoming. Can set the plates on the table before going to call the kids inside. Tin sighed as he dished up his and Can's plate while he thought about the stuff that has been happening over the past year. Nova has grown and become even more beautiful and looked like a mixture of her parents and had a bit her own personality with a bit of Can and Tin's in there.

Another thing that has been going on secretly is Tin's family has been trying to get Tin to bring Nova to them so they could meet her. Tin didn't want Nova anywhere near his side of the family for obvious reasons. He had not told Can about it since he knows that Can would freak out if he knew. Nova didn't really know anything about his side of the family and he liked to keep it like that. She had loving parents, loving grandmother and aunt who adored her and that's all she needs.

After lunch, they all decided to go out for ice cream since Tin forgot to get some when he was at the grocery store the other day. Thankfully, Lynn left Frankie's booster seat so that they could all go together. Tin drove them all to the ice cream store, both Frankie and Nova were super excited and were talking about what flavor they wanted.

As Tin parked the car his phone went off in the storage compartment. Can picked it up thinking it was his. His blood boiled at the name on the caller ID. It was Tin's mother.

"What does she want?" Can said showing Tin who it was. Tin looked back at Nova before looking at Can. Can got the picture and was even more pissed off.

"What does she want with her and how did she find out she is a girl?" He asked.

"They want to meet her"

"Who wants to meet who?" Nova asked.

"Nobody you will ever know" Can said before opening the door to get out as they parked the car in the parking lot of the ice cream store. Tin got out and got Nova out while Can got Frankie out. They all headed inside not knowing what was about to happen. They made it about ten steps before they realized that some people they really didn't want to run into were here. Tin's parents, brother and nephew were here. Phu was twelve now and looked more like his evil brother. His biological parents looked exactly the same, disinterested in him and judgemental.

"Uncle Tin!!" His nephew said noticing him first. He ran over to him and threw his arms around his waist. Tin hugged him back before looking up to see his biological family was looking at them.

"Daddy, who is he?" Nova asked with her head peaking out from behind Can.

"He is Daddy's brother's son." Tin said. "Phu, this is Nova, you're cousin.:

"Phu, get over here and finish your ice cream." Tul said.

"But I want to-"

"Get over here now!!" Tul insisted. Phu frowned said goodbye to his uncle before doing what he was told. His parents stood and walked over to them. They didn't even look at Tin and Can but looked right at Nova.

"Hello" Tin's mother said.

"Hello" Nova said still hiding behind Can.

"I'm your grandmother and this is your grandfather."

"You aren't my grandma, my grandma isn't married or scary looking." Nova said. Tin and Can bit back a laugh as Tin's parents narrowed their eyes.

"You should teach her to respect her elders." Tin's father said to Tin.

"She does, just not for scary looking people." Can said.

"No one was talking to you freak." Tin's mom said. Before Tin and Can could do anything Nova stepped out from behind Can and glared at Tin's mom.

"My Papa is not a freak, I don't like you cause you are rude." She said.

"Watch who you are talking to before I give you a beating you will never forget." His father said.

"If you touch one hair on her head, I will give you a beating you will never forget." Tin said stepping in front of Nova.

"Come on let's just go to the grocery store and get some ice cream there." Can said. They all turned to leave but Frankie who glared at the two evil people.

"My mommy and daddy say that love is love no matter what gender or race you are and that people who think it's wrong is an asshole." Frankie said making Tin's parents gasp and Tin, Nova and Can's eyes widen.

"Why you little..." Tin's mom said. Before anything could happen, Tin grabbed Frankie and hurried out of the ice cream shop with Can and Nova right behind them.

A little later, after getting ice cream from the grocery store they headed back to the house. As they parked the car Frankie spoke up.

"Am I in trouble for using a bad word?" He asked.

"No, no you are not in trouble for cursing but that doesn't mean you should cuss anymore."

"I don't like that lady." Nova said.

"I agree" Frankie said.

"We don't like them either which is why we were keeping you away from them. We didn't want you to grow up with hate in your heart." Tin said.

"I love you Daddy and Papa"

"We love you Nova" Can said.

"Now let's go inside and eat some ice cream before it melts."
