KIISHA

I inspected my short fingernails as our class teacher shared the results, my fingernails was extremely short because I do chew on it, though my friends and parents do complain but I loved chewing my nails.

Today was the last day of the term and we were to collect our results, yesterday was the Christmas celebration and I ended up singing the duet with Jared.

He'd played the piano like the piano king he was and I'd sang the song until he joined, it was an interesting moment that I can never forget.

"Kiisha," Mrs Yusuf called. I looked up and smiled and approached her.

"You did well, keep up the good work," she complimented, I smiled and collected my dossier before going back to my seat.

"Give her a round of applause"

The clap rented the whole air for some minutes.

"And the last but not the least"

Wait, Is there any other person she needs to call. Normally our dossier was always shared according to your grade and rank in the class. I was always the last person so far I was ranked first place and the only straight A- student, and I even had 93.58%, so all this looked surreal to me

"Jared," she called and the whole class erupted.

I looked around and my eyes landed on Jared who stood up proudly and walked towards her. What's going on?

"This has never happened in history, he had straight A's but his A's are plus, he had perfect scores in three subjects and the others were 90 plus, he ended up having 98.5%"

Noise filled the whole class as Jared collected his dossier from the grinning Mrs. Yusuf.

He turned back as the whole class hailed him, he flashed me a cool smile which I returned with a glare as he walked back to his seat.

She continued, "You all.....," but I didn't hear the rest, what on earth just happened? Did I just get defeated by this guy again? No, there's still second term and third term, I'll make sure I return the embarrassment he borrowed me today with interest, I hissed scathingly.

"Kiisha, is anything wrong?" I looked up and noticed all eyes were plugged on me, turns out I hissed loudly.

"Nothing ma"

"Good, I hope you all are joining the sports excursion during the holiday"

"Yes," the whole class chorused.

"Have a pleasant holiday," she said and walked out of the class.

The whole class turned to me and nonsense spewed out of their mouths.

"Ah, Kiisha, how do you feel?" Aminat shouted in her usual nonsense trademark.

This girl is a lunatic oo, I don't even know why I considered her as a semi-friend.

"Do I look like a sick patient or what type of stupid question is that?"

"You look like you want to enter the ground nah, so you can look like this, I never believed someone would give you your size, this is still the first term and he's already whooping your ass, second and third term will be bad oo and I must not miss the show, ooojigbijigbi," she mocked and hit her head with her.

I scoffed and shook my head. So this dunderhead has the audacity to talk to me in this manner, Jared is to blame for everything.

"Oh, you think I'll be offended, the only thing offending me is your face and IQ, how can someone be this ugly and still have an empty skull, oh, it's a pity that you don't even one complimentary features in your life.  You're a mistake that no one wants, let me just give you a piece of advice though, I know you dunce can't really grasp but I'll say it nevertheless. Always close that septic tank you call a mouth, you don't have to prove to everyone that stupidity runs in your vein, we all know, bitch! ," I ended it with a hiss, picked up my dossier and walked proudly out of the classroom.

"Wow, this is an excellent result, you only had two 80s, the rest are 90s, 93.58%," Kiiti gushed, she was checking my result alongside Kiishi.

"Please, just get that result away from my face," I said as calmly as I could.

"Kiisha, there's nothing with your result, you still had your straight A's," Kiishi said and I eyed her and snatched the dossier from her.

"Can you compare my A's to that punk's own, ehn, tell me," I screamed and threw the dossier angrily on my bed.

"What's wrong with you? Many people are dying to have your result but you aren't satisfied at all, Kiisha, I had just 5A's and the others are B's and I'm still happy about it," Kiishi said angrily and sat on her bed.

"Me too, I had 5A's and the rest are B's and I'm satisfied, I'm not going around screaming at people," Kiiti added.

I eyed the both of them, hissed and stormed out of the room, out of the hostel and headed to the cafeteria, I was in dire need of a cold drink.

I collected the yoghurt and mince pie at the counter and sat at a corner munching the pie in anger. While at it, a voice called me, no, that jerk's voice, I jerked my head up in the direction of the sound and eyed him menacingly before taking a sip of the yoghurt.

"Hey, Riff," he drew out the chair in front of me and sat.

"Don't you dare call me that name again!," I snapped and stood up but his hand drew me back and my butt landed on the chair.

"Are you high?" I yelled and heads turned to my direction as they started murmuring.

"You're the one behaving like someone on drugs"

I glared at him and dropped the pie and yoghurt on the table before folding my arms.

"Are you done?" I eyed him and pouted.

"Ri...," I held out my palm in anger as and he chocked on the words.

"Don't think you've won or outshined me because I won't stand still  next term," I said belligerently and the bastard still had the gut to laugh like a maniac.

I drummed my fingernails on the table and shook my head in pity.

"Ah, Riff, you're so funny, are we in a competition? See, Aanuoluwakiisha, stuffs like this are normal, you don't have to be mad over this issue, who knows you might top next term, and it's not every brilliant person that ends up successful," he advised and it quenched my fury as I swallowed my anger. The way he do call my name always filled my heart.

I didn't reply but rather munched the pie and gulped the yoghurt while he watched me with his signature smile that always deepened his dimples, I slurped and took my eyes off him.

He stood up and ordered the same thing I was having before coming back with it. Why is he back gan?

"Riff"

I looked up and threw him a scowl.

"Aanuoluwakiisha," Oh no! Why?

I didn't know when I responded.

"Yes"

A wide smile appeared on his face.

"Let's go back to the way we were, I don't like you being angry with me, Riff," I gave him a warning look and he smiled before continuing, "Riff, riff, riff, my baby," he wore a puppy face that was hilarious, I couldn't help but chuckled.

"See, I know your weak point," he bragged.

"Just keep quiet"

He took a sip of the yoghurt and a bite of the pie before talking, "We're on good terms now, right?"

"You're on probation," and he chortled.

"So are you joining the sports excursion during the holiday?" he asked before taking another sip of the yoghurt.

"Yeah"

A smile of pleasure fitted his face.

"Good, my uncle stays in Spain"

"So? Are we going to his place nii?"

He shook his head.

"You'll know when we get there"
