Haileys pov
"Hey baby" Kyle said when I got to his locker "don't do that" "do what" "call me that, I don't know what gets into you when you get jealous but yesterday was too much Kyle" "what are you talking about" "you punching him for us just walking" "he shouldn't be walking with someone else's girlfriend" "that's the problem, why can't I walk with a friend" "I don't like it and I don't trust him" "I think we should break up" "baby wait no" "I just don't know if we can be together if you're gonna get like this every time you see him" "do you understand I'm doing this because I like you" "you don't have to do this, I like you Kyle you don't have to get rid of every other guy in my life for it to be true" "then I'll stop you can have whatever friend you want just we aren't breaking up" "Kyle I don't know if you mean that" "I do. You're not thinking straight right now it's early and you're a little angry I understand I'm sorry. We'll just give it another chance and we'll both do the right things" "Kyle" "Hailey just forget this whole conversation we're not breaking up" he said grabbing my face and kissing me and eventually I stopped resisting it.
"Kyle you have to change" "I will baby okay. Come here" he said pulling me into a hug as my arms wrapped loosely around his back. What the fuck have I done. Why couldn't I just do it. I knew eventually it was gonna blow up in face again."I couldn't do it" I said sitting down for lunch "you didn't break up with him" Rory asked "no I didn't. He didn't let me and I just gave in" "Hailey" "I know. He said he's gonna change" "what if he doesn't" "then I really do breakup with him. I mean it's not like I've ever actually told him this bothers me" "I guess" she said.
The next few days I decided to stay away from Isaac in front of Kyle as much as I could and hopefully he would relax. I thought that maybe I was doing something wrong in the relationship. If I didn't give him a reason to be jealous then he wouldn't lash out right.
Now it was Friday, game day and then Kyle would go to his camp.
"So did anything come up" I asked Isaac when the bell for science rang "no. I'll be there" "okay well, see you then" I said grabbing my stuff and leaving.
"Hey babe" Kyle said "hey are you ready for your game" "yea" "good luck" "thanks I'll see you on the field later yea" "yea" I said as he kissed me and then walked off.
"Isaac coming" Rory asked as we walked on the field "yea. Why" "I mean Kyle hasn't seen you and him in the same place for a few days" "true but it's not like we're talking or anything so there is nothing he could be mad about" "knowing Kyle he'll find a way" she said lowly but I heard her anyways.
Rory never really liked him. She said she didn't like the way he treated me. She always wanted to talk to him about it but I never let her because it wouldn't be good. She says what's on her mind and holds back nothing and I at least wanted them to be civilized when we all hung out.
They lost the game which I know would have Kyle in a bad mood. After they lose, their coach gives them the longest talks so I wait out in the hallway for a while. I finished changing and got my stuff out of my locker before going into the hall.
"Hey, what are you doing" Isaac asked almost walking past me "waiting for Kyle" "oh" "yea. When they lose they get a long talk and then he takes even longer to change" "oh okay. I could wait with you" "don't you have to get home" "no. I don't really want to be there right now anyways" "why" "Andreas parents are having dinner there tonight and after the game we were all supposed to go back there" "so where's Andrea" "she went home with her brother" "oh okay. Won't they wonder where you are" "I don't care" "okay. So the wedding, are you excited" "sort of" "where is it" "Sicily" "in Italy"
"yea" "wow. Is your grandfather gonna be there" "yea he usually is" "that's good. Can I ask you something" "yea" "do you like this" "what" "you know like your family business" "uh well I've never really known any other way" "yea but like when you were just a normal kid that didn't deal with what you deal with now and then you grew up and had to start doing it, did it bother you" "well I've always known that this is what I would have to do. My uncle and my dad would tell me a lot of stuff like who I would be able to trust and not trust and why and if there was any falling outs or gun fights or who was shot. My sister was born when I was four and from then they taught me to do whatever I had to in order to protect her. When I was nine I learned how to shoot a gun and by 11 I could pretty much hit anything. At eight I started going to meetings with my dad every once a while and by ten I could negotiate almost anything and was doing them myself. So you could say I never really was a normal kid" "oh my god. So what is that like training or something, did everyone do it" "not everyone just depends on whatever you're parents want you to do" "did Dixie do that" "no. She knows a lot, my father tells her things but she's never had to experience it so she doesn't take this seriously. I learned the hard way that this wasn't a joke" "what do you mean the hard way" "I'd rather not say" "okay. Thanks for waiting with me, really" "you're welcome" "you should probably go before he comes out though and uh have a good dinner" "yea doubt it. Goodnight Hailey" "goodnight Isaac" I said as he walked off.Almost ten minutes later Kyle and another one of his teammates walked out. He said bye to him and then walked over to me.
"Hey babe you did good don't worry about it" "I did alright. I just hope this isn't how I play at the camp" "you won't, you're gonna do amazing" "thanks" he said kissing my cheek.
He walked me to my car and we talked for a little bit before I left.
I couldn't stop thinking about what Isaac meant by the hard way but maybe it was best I didn't know. I couldn't imagine doing what he did before age 11.
"Hey how was the game" Derrick asked when I got in the house "they lost" "oh dang. You're not staying at Kyles tonight" he asked "'no, he leaves early in the morning" "oh okay. Well your mom cooked dinner" "okay I'm gonna shower and come get a plate" I said before going upstairs.
