We were all gathered in the backyard watching Drew and Mike play fetch with Duke when the doorbell rang. Calum, who was a few feet away from me, chatting to Ash and Jason, exchanged a wary look with me, not going unnoticed by the two boys talking to him.
Why did we have to have such curious and perceptive people as best friends, I thought to myself.
The four of us became alert as I immediately stood up, and even though only Calum and I knew what was really happening, Jason and Ashton seemed to be catching up to things.
I hear not so silent footsteps following once I enter the house and am surprised to find Ashton Irwin behind me. Honestly, I was expecting the other half of the rhythm section.
"Just getting a refil" He gestures to his beer, once he catches me looking at him over my shoulder "You look stressed"
"No, I don't" I reply, walking up to the front door
I wait for him to enter the kitchen before I open the door, but he never does. Ashton is leaning on the kitchen door frame with arms crossed over his chest and a defiant smirk on his face. I give him a questioning look before I open the door trying to look as calm as possible, which makes him laugh and makes me very annoyed. Unlocking the door, I open it to reveal Sierra standing outside and Ash lets out a high pitched hysterical laughter.
"That's fantastic" He says before disappearing into the kitchen
"Hi love" I greet the girl with a big hug
I liked Sierra since I first met her at Andy's birthday. She was the sweetest from the start and even though I technically know Crystal longer, I feel like I have a more honest relationship with Sierra. It's hard to compare, really. I get along super well with Crystal but we don't get into very deep topics or intimate conversations.
"Baaaaby" She jumps while hugging me "How are you?"
"I'm super happy you are here" I honestly say "Come in"
Sierra follows down the hallway and suddenly everyone in the backyard has their attention fixed inside the house, including Luke. With a nervous squeal, she runs into the kitchen to find Ashton laughing at her expense.
"Hello my friend" He greets her with a big bro hug "This night should be interresting"
"I'm glad you are having fun" She rolls her eyes at him, still in his embrace
"It will be fine" I assure her "The two of you will get to talk and work things out"
"Actually, the two of you" Ashton says, pointing to both me and Sierra "Have got to learn to stop minding other peoples businesses"
I don't have time to question them about neither what Ashton meant by that or what was the cause of Sierra and Luke's fight because Luke himself is entering the kitchen.
I never really thought of Luke as an intimidating guy, despite his tall figure. He is always so full of joy that he reminds me of a golden retriever.
"I think there are too many people in this kitchen" Ash comments making all of us let out nervous chuckles "I'm sure Gia agrees with me"
"I was going to say the guest room is available, in case you..."
"Sex is not a healthy way to solve your problems" Irwin interrupts me "Believe me, I had tons of failed relationships because of that. Communication is the key to a healthy relationship and the only way to work things out between you two"

"What?" I remember Calum asked me with a little frown between his eyebrows
"Nothing" I shook my head trying to get rid of the stupid thoughts that insisted to barge in after I received that text message from Lis
Calum had gone out with Nia the night before and it was now all over the news. We had talked about it already but I simply couldn't fight the annoying feeling inside my chest.
"Doesn't look like it" He insisted while driving
I tried to keep myself busy choosing another one of my favorite songs. I decided for Riptide by Vance Joy because this song always finds a way to make me smile. I rested my head on the leather seat with eyes closed trying to lighten up my mood.
"Communication is the key to any healthy relationship" I heard him say making me crack a smile
"Is this from your Self help book?" I mocked "Wise words from a not so wise man"
"Well, excuse me" Calum pretended to be offended "I'm wise enough"
"You're already good looking, you don't need to be smart as well" I repeated the words from this morning earning a funny look from Calum
"It's actually from Ashton's meditation guide" He admitted making me laugh "But I was wise enough to know the perfect timing to use it"
