This story is written from Crystal's POV cause it just is :)
————————————————————————

I stand at the entrance of the campus of my new art college, today was the day where I move into my new dorm and I'm nervous but excited.
As my parents help me unload my luggage I look around at the other people. Some alone, some with family, some with friends but everyone smiling through a swarm of butterflies. I can tell just by looking, I've always considered myself good at reading people by their body language and expressions.
I walk over and lift up the last box and follow my Dad who has just gotten the last two smaller boxes.
I had gotten my dorm number earlier, building A , room 1 on the second floor. I got in the lift with my dad, he looked.... overwhelmed, I looked down and within a few seconds we were on my floor. We got out and walked into my room.
My roommate hadn't arrived yet so I took the opportunity to sit down with my parents.
My mother was an uptight and traditional woman, always neat and perfect. My dad was the opposite, he had a long mullet almost down to his ass and always wore cool, alternative clothes. They were a weird couple but you know what they say, opposites attract.

"Right Crystal, now you're all ready, I do still think this art college isn't that of a good career choice for you" my mother says. I ignore her. She thinks I should've been a lawyer or a CEO of some big company like her, I'll never be that.

"Let's go now, and leave crystal to unpacking"  she says to my dad.
"Give me a minute to talk to Crystal alone" he says.
My mother just rolls her eyes and walks out of the room.

I sit on my bed and my dad sits beside me.
"My little princess" he says, his eyes brimming with tears.
"I'm ok Dad, I can do this"
"I know you can, you're going to do so well in this school, I am so so proud of you."
I smile weakly, my eyes tearing up as he continues to talk.

"You're so incredible at art and I am so glad you got this opportunity, stay yourself my gorgeous girl, I love you so much"

"I love you too dad" and I mean it.

I've always been my dads little girl, always been spoiled rotten and treated like a queen, always been encouraged to do my best and always congratulated for my achievements. I was so lucky to have a father like this. I know that. He's my number one fan, always cheering me on.

He understands me, he understands I don't respect my mother and he understands my aims in life, I'm lucky he's bold enough to stand up to her because if he had let her manipulate her like she does with everyone else I wouldn't be here right now.

He hugs me, his hair tickling me, a proper loving hug like every parent should give their child.

"I'm so proud of you" he says, crying properly now

And I know he means it

Suddenly the door bursts open and a blonde giggling girl walks in smiling.

"Hey you must be my roommate, crystal right? I'm Jan!"

I smile, she looked really nice.

My dad took this as his cue to leave and as he closed the door I became aware of my new normal.

Jan sat down on the bed opposite me.

"Need help unpacking!" She said cheerily

I smiled weakly as I accepted.

This is it, the start of my new life.
