Once in a lifetime

I walked up to the theater, Gigi was waiting outside, leaned against the wall with one leg on it.
She saw me and instantly smiled and waved.

"Hi Crystal" she said in a warm voice, causing the butterflies in my stomach to flutter but also causing my heart to sink to the bottom of my stomach.

"Hey" I say, trying to not sound like my heart had been crushed.

"You ok?" She asked.

Oops, guess I'm not so good at hiding it.

"I'm fine! Wanna get started?" I say in an overly cheerful voice.

"Ok sure, so the stage in the theater will be used for a costume showcase where people will perform, like a drag show but you don't have to be a drag queen." She explains. "We need to make the decorations pretty, but not distracting"

We start hanging lights and streamers around the theater, just making small talk and chatting about classes.

"So did you go to Brooke and Vanessa's party last night? I was hoping I'd see you" Gigi says

She just HAD to bring that up, and she didn't even see me.

"Oh um... yes I was there! I saw you but you seemed um... busy" I stutter

"Busy?" She questions, turning to me.

I really couldn't have just said I didn't see her.

"Um yes... you were with a blonde girl, I didn't know who it was" I say "you seemed quite... close."

"Oh? Courtney maybe." She says casually

Courtney?

"Is she your girlfriend?" I ask as casually as I can.

"No! God no. She's my best friend, I've known her since high school! We're just the type of friends who casually kiss." She laughs

I breath a silent sigh of relief.

"She's beautiful though, you're telling me you're not even slightly attracted to her?" I ask.

"Not at all, we're to close, it would be weird to be more than friends, Plus she's straight. Why are you asking though? are you jealous?" She winks

This last question catches me off guard.

"I mean, I-" I stutter

Gigi laughs at me and throws a streamer at me, which misses and falls only an inch from Gigi, we both laugh.

I feel giddy and happy now after finding out Gigi and Courtney were just friends, even if they did kiss. But that's what a lot of straight best friends do, I know that.

I walk over and pick up the streamer to hang up, I stand up and notice how close I am to Gigi, our body's are almost touching.

She catches my eyes and just looks at me, with those gorgeous eyes.

We both start leaning when suddenly the door bangs open and we jump apart. It's Brooke and Nicky.

"Hey sorry to interrupt" Nicky says,smirking.

I blush.

"We really need your help decorating the main green when you're ready, both of you"  Brooke says

They leave.

"Well we better go." Gigi says

I smile. Me and Gigi were about to kiss! I cant help but feel disappointed that it was interrupted.

She takes my hand and we walk out of the theater to the green.
