I throw my phone onto my bed and flop down beside it, why why WHY can I not think of how to reply to this text, why am I overthinking it so much it's just a text for gods sake.

I lie there in a mix of emotions when Jan saunters in.

"HEY CRYSSSS!!!" She sings as she skips over to me.

"Hey Jan" I sigh

She scans me with her eyes.

"What's up?" She asks

"Nothing it's fine" I know Jan will give great advice, but I don't know how she'll take the fact that I'm gay and I really don't want to lose her as a roommate and friend, since she's great at both.

"I can see right through you, talk to me Crys" she says, sitting down beside me on my bed as I sit up.

"Well it's just, I have a crush on someone and usually I'm pretty good at reading people but with he- I mean them it's different, it's like, I don't know what to say and I can't tell if they like me or just want to be friends or what."

"Well, there are signs I guess, for example if this person shows signs of wanting to include you or like inviting you out, or the obvious one which is flirting" Jan replies "anyway, who is this secret crush of yours"

I hesitate
"....ummm it doesn't matter, I just need help answering a text"

"Ok that's fine, what did the text say?"

"It just said hi and then who it was"

Jan thinks for a minute.

"I'd say your best bet is to just say hey back, and maybe ask them how their day was, that will start a conversation!"

I blink at her, how had I not thought of that before?

"Yes perfect!!" I say, picking up my phone

"Can I guess who it is?" Jan asks

"Sure if you want" I say, assuming she'll guess a boy, therefor not guessing it right.

"Gigi? Gigi Goode?" She says, side-eyeing me. She knows she's right.

"How did you know?!" I ask in shock, surprised she got it FIRST TRY.

"I just notice these things!" She smiles

"So you don't mind then?" I ask cautiously.

"Mind what? The fact you like girls? Of course not! I never assume anyone's sexuality or gender, I don't see why I should" she says.

Wow, I knew she was great but she's REALLY great!!

"Thank you Jan, you're actually the only one who knows I'm gay" I say, almost in tears because it feels so good to finally tell someone.

She smiles at me and gives me a hug

"I'm proud that you felt you could tell me" she says.

She really is the best friend I could ask for.

"Now to send the text" she giggles

I pick up my phone and go into messages.

"Hey Gigi! How was your day?"

*sent*

I put down my phone in relief. All that just to send a text.

Ok yes, I don't know how long this story will be tbh cause genuinely I have a plan but I have no idea how long it'll take, so we'll see :))
