Creeping Shadows

As light fades to dark

Its shadows leave their mark

On the sky and on land

Even on the warm sand

They sweep across the ocean

Yet not really in motion

Something dark, sure

But not pure

Its form ripples and sways

Like it is in a maze

Light is blotted out

And the sun pouts

As its hard work is driven away

By some shadows so stray

Uncontrollable things are they

Those moving forms of gray

Or are they black

If only they were lilac

One form rises above its friends

And separates into tens

Hundreds of shadows cloak the shore

And reach towards the ocean floor

No star shines where they thrive

But the moon is brave enough to dive

Towards the ocean

Creating a motion

Of light so bright

The shadows take flight

Trailing after the pouting sun

Until a new day has begun
