A young girl waded in a cold stream
Her heart racing like she was in a dream
The cold water rushed around her legs
And her heart cracked like a hard-boiled egg
She sat down in the river
Trying not to shiver
She closed her eyes
And started to cry
Every moment of her life
Cut through her like a knife
His voice soothed her broken heart
But the laughing of her friends tore her apart
The icy water chilled her skin
And she climbed out with a small grin
She lay on the grassy bank
And her heart sank
The sun cast a dying ray
And the shadows began to play
She closed her eyes again
Wondering where she had been
A voice sounded in her head
And she woke up in a bed
A young man stood over her
And she made a sound that seemed like a purr
The girl walked around the town
With her new friend wearing a crown
The mocking laughter started to die
When they could no longer be sly
They traveled around the world
And the joy-filled skies twirled
She never thought about her mocking friends
Until a formerly close friend called before his end
She visited him alone
And saw that he had nothing but a small stone
Memories filled her lonely heart
And she remembered that he cared for her from the start
The voice in her head whispered to her
And memories of him came in a blur
Almost silently, she gave him a kiss
And his last look was one of bliss
She slipped her ring off her finger
And started to linger
She placed it on the stand
And placed an engagement ring on his hand
As the man drew his last breath
And gave into death
She was reminded of his kind heart
And wished they had never been apart
