The First Snowfall

Throughout the still woods

Birds studied the skies

They put away their leafy goods

And started to rise

A soft breeze twisted among the trees

Bringing a hint of icy snow

The flowers let out a sneeze

And the river lost its flow

A single snowflake drifted down

Landing on the leaf-filled land

More tiny flakes came to the forest town

Covering the ground like an frozen hand

The snow landed on the trees in a pile

And the river became frozen

Snow covered the forest for hundreds of miles

And a blizzard blows in

Strong winds whip the snow around

And the world turned white

The forest was ice-bound

When the snow finally took flight

A snow-filled wonderland was left in its wake

And the flowers raised their heads to see

The land coated with white flakes

And the river like an icy sea

Little wolves poked out their noses

And licked the storm's snowy balls

Frost kissed the pink roses

At the first snowfall
