Sunset over the Ocean

Every night as the sun sets

The ocean's waves begin to bet

Who will be the one to kiss

The sun's rays and who will miss

The first ray touches the water's surface

And the first wave resurfaces

Ray and wave touch at their tips

But the ray slips

The water turns a bright red

And the wave looks like it bled

It crashes against the rest of the water

Like a parent hugging his lost daughter

More rays kiss the surface

And more waves leave the subsurface

The ocean mimics the sky's bright color

And the blood red becomes duller

The sun slips under the water

As graceful as an otter

And the waves follow it under

Leaving the water and sky in wonder

Darkness fills the sky

And the moon reaches high

The last of the sunset rests just above the ocean

Leaving the water filled with emotion
