hwang hyunjin was a boy who had been living in a bubble for quite sometime. the only protection he had from that bubble popping to keep him safe was the idea of emma bang. she was his crush since childhood, going on and off with loving feelings toward the curly headed girl around 5'2.
in his eyes she was perfect. a kind and selfless human being much like her older brother chris who hyunjin had known prior to his introduction to the girl related to him. but there was a reason for what was going on with hyunjin. a reason that no body knew.
a week ago this boy missed school for a reason that was unknown by any principal, teacher, friend, or other person. it had occurred at home which was a very closed environment since hyunjin was a boy.
you see he was never accepted by his parents for who he was. whether it be for wanting to pursue dance or music. or being friends with people who were homosexual like minho or now felix. the idea of being gay was heavily frowned upon within his household. but don't you worry, hyunjin was straight. wasn't it obvious who he had his mind set on?
the door to hyunjin's house opened. his mother eagerly was cooking food that did not smell too appealing. hyunjin was still lost in thought. the only reason he snapped out of it was when an old long-haired chihuahua jumped up against his leg.
"hyunjin." a firm voice said . the boy was alerted by a male presence coming into the room. hyunjin jolted. he hated when someone called his name. it gave him fear heavy anxiety. his parents were not the best. they had, as previously mentioned, would remind hyunjin that he was not a good enough son.
but there was one way his father would allow hyunjin to prove himself. that was if he brought home a girl. and after years of school dances and trying and trying ... he was again unsuccessful.
but this was the year that he would be taking emma. the girl was on his mind for forever and after she was obviously showing romantic attraction toward him as well.
"so. she IS going with you." hyunjin's father's fist hit the splinter-covered and run-down kitchen counter. "right?"
hyunjin gulped and stood from petting his dog to approach the kitchen. he did so with a slow and gingerly pace of footsteps. things could easily go to hell if hyunjin made a step out of place even just once. and now he would have to deal with the consequences of not bringing the promised girl to the dance.
"no..." he whispered, gaze looking down in fear of making eye contact to his elders . "dammit boy , speak louder!" his mother hollered , throwing or dropping some sort of object on the kitchen floor. things had never been physical in his household until recently when his parents had had enough of him.
"no. she's going with someone else. with jisung." he finally admitted. the wrath his parents felt was easily shown through laughs of humiliation by his mother followed by the smash of a bottle on the counter by his father.
"pathetic. you let a gay ass take away a girl from you. how stupid are you hyunjin? cause i am insanely unhappy with you. and i always have been." his father stated. the anger in his father began to flare and hyunjin tried to slowly back up. his paternal parent noticed the recoil and easily commented.
"don't you dare take another step back, you piece of shit. be a man for once hwang hyunjin. can't even bring home a fucking girl. you're a man . be dominant. beat that boy up and throw him in hell for that women. be the dominant human you're supposed to be." his father proposed. step. step. he came closer.
"she's not like that.. i would never be dominant like that to her. i genuinely love this girl, father. and after i deal with this i- i promise to bring her to you. give me time... please." the boy was shaken and filled with fear slowly taking another step back. step. step. his father was closer.
"don't you back talk me. you already saw how that ended up." his father reminded him. last week hyunjin had been tended for a fractured rib after being pushed down the stairs by his father for the same reason he was being confronted for now.
jisung had taken away the one girl who would allow hyunjin safety. someone to confide in. to protect . and he wasn't even dating her for real. he was using her for his own benefit. and that made hyunjin pissed.
"you don't get it. emma is the most amazing person and i can't just drag her here sh-"
"SHUT UP!" the steps stopped. the top of the broken bottle was thrown toward hyunjin. his cheek was lacerated now and his finger tips felt tiny drips of red blood trickle down his cheek as tears sometimes would. the glass shattered.pop. the bubble the boy had been in was popped.
it was silent. the fight ended. his father took one last step to pinch hyunjin's cheek and force a stare into his father's eyes."get out of my sight." and he let go, throwing his sons chin down and tossing the boy over on the ground. "worthless."
hyunjin waited for his parents to exit the room before sneaking into his room upstairs. this room was filled with a little lamp, a mattress on the floor, a sheet, and any supplies necessary for school along with some clothes that were not so nice. he wasn't as wealth as everyone else. his dad was fired for starting violence at work and his mother never worked. she only worked to please her husband in whatever needs he had.
the white button up shirt, black bowtie, and nice dress pants had been an outfit hyunjin stole from minho when he was giving away clothes. this was too big for minho and so hyunjin tidied it up to wear it to this dance on friday, which was approaching sooner than later.
hyunjin would for sure be attending this event. he certainly would.
