she's in the rain - the rose

although it was a monday that was no excuse to prevent two students from making a night time coffee run. a local cafe down in the towns busy intersection by a park and an ice cream parlor was an easy walk away from the two kids neighborhood.

one arrived early. a black sweater with little embroidery by the collar and light grey pants. he also wore a beret with a small ribbon out of the back that was woven through into a little bow. the only things you could consider accessories was a wallet and a cell phone that he typed on.

this boy waited under the canopy in the strange silence of wind and light flurries.

the second arrived shortly after. this one a small girl. about 5'2 with hair that had previously been straightened. the straight hair was wavy now as it turned back to curls that were obviously the natural do. she had on a white hoodie that belonged to a friend of hers, in the pockets her cell phone and twenty dollars.

she wore black jeans with slight tares and combat books that seemed a bit larger. she waved to the small black car that had left her at the destination and went slowly up to the other person . they stood only feet apart . looking at each other. one eyes gaze to the other.

the first gaze was like jade. it had thin green tints and highlights woven into the green iris. the black pupil in the middle was sharp though, giving the soft and gentle gaze the ability to be daring and bold. the sign above the location lit up her eyes. she stood in the rain.

the boy did not. and he was the other half of this gaze. except his eyes were like brick walls made of pure brown topaz with the shade from the canopy above. they are referred to as a wall here because of the tears he had to keep from escaping the duct.

the stare lasted a moment. the boy reached his arms out. the young girl came running forward.

"i'm so sorry..." the young girl whispered into the older boys embrace. both just teared up and held each other . the emotions were confused and mixed although it was easily noticeable that the aura was depressing and low.

after moments of strangers passing and staring at the awkward people in the rain they decided to head into the cafe. the boy took the smaller girls tiny hands into his own and leaned her chin up.

"hey." he whispered, wiping his tears and brushing hers away. "come on. let me buy you something to drink." she smiled and they went inside.

---------------------------------------

after strange silence and lots of sips the girl spoke up. "why do you forgive me...?" she asked, gaze out on to the rainy side walk. she watched cars go by and streetlights switch shades of red and green in all directions.

the boy sighed. "because. you're different, emma..."

"and how am i different than jisung?" the girl asked confused, but not mad. curious if you will. her and jisung, a friend who she mentioned, had the same positioning. why would the boy forgive one and not the other?

"i loved, jisung. so bad. and that hurt my heart more. and plus, as much as it was your idea you asked to give it up and he didn't. which was selfish, admit it." he spoke softly. "but this doesn't mean i'm not mad at you, too."

"and i will never be able to apologize for how bad i hurt you, minho. but i want you to forgive jisung first. you still love him... i can tell. you can't come to grips with hating him." emma explained, taking a small sip of her drink .

"i mean... as much as i still have feelings for him, wouldn't it be bad to get with someone who's hurting my heart in the ways he did?" minho questioned. valid reasoning .

minho got all tucked up into his knees, signally sadness in his head. thoughts swimming around his head like a pool of fish. he was honestly embarrassed at the fact that his mind still ran soft thoughts of kissing the boy who he had so dearly fallen in love with. but...was he still in love anymore..?

"no. minho... it would be better." emma explained to the low laying boy before her. she lifted her drink to her hand and walk to sit beside him, his head finding his way to her shoulder in a soft cry. emma turned her body and arms to wrap around the saddened boy.

" you know, minho. i've been in similar situations. maybe not with relationships, but friends. they fight sometimes and sometimes i just realize maybe it would be better to make amends than continue to be mad at them. cause everyone messes up... its just life. and i'm not telling you you should forgive jisung. we both messed up really bad... i feel really guilty about hiding it from you, minho. but maybe talk to him? "

minho had no response, just shaken breaths upon a still body. no tears and empty plastic drink cups. emma twirled minho's hair a bit through her fingers, it was soft and lite. rather thin but very well cared for.

"but just... whatever you do. don't damage yourself in anyway. don't make bad choices or bring yourself down. whether you chose to talk to him or not-" she stopped in her speech to hold the taller boys hand with her own. "i'll stay with you, ok?"

minho smiled, sitting himself back up to a proper posture he thanked her. emma nodded in response. the two just looked out to the rain, it started calming down a bit. the moon easily visible from the large cafe windows at the front. they looked to the stars and then back at each other.

" what about, hyunjin... ? " minho asked. he had been staying with emma and her brother until he was stable enough and his family was dealt with. hyunjin had liked emma. emma had liked hyunjin. both had a strong affection for each other.

"he is doing so much better. i'm glad to see him rather calmed down now and happy, although he still gets panicked at the thought of his parents, but i'm working to reassure him it's alright. hyunjin is still his sweet self, just a bit shaken still to be in a safe environment for once. we're going to help him find some sort of counselor and make sure he's better . " emma explained soft and gently.

the two smiled, agreeing that this was a great idea and that hopefully one day hyunjin's heart of many pieces could be whole again. it would take time to heal from his family and the situation with jisung. but as long as one day he could feel alright, then everything would be settled for the boy.

" what about you two? and your relationship?" minho continued on. the two had still expressed much love for each other and it was obvious that something could easily start with them . it was just when that mattered. but both were patient souls. when the time was right they would both be able to tell.

" we talked about it a few times this weekend. chris is fine with it, of course. hyunjin says he's ready but... i just worry that i'll be another burden to hyunjin as his girlfriend with all else that's going on in that pretty mind of his. but i love him a lot, and i'll wait until i'm sure he's ok. but we both know we're defiantly going somewhere in the near future. " emma spoke happily.

her face lit up and tone of voice changed at the topic of her love. she had been scared to enter this relationship as hyunjin had a lot on his plate to deal with and she was scared she would make it worse than better. although hyunjin was one to give love in order to be happy, and he wanted that for emma. he just wanted to give her all she ever wanted.

emma always wished for love, too. someone to hold, to laugh with, somebody who she could be herself with. that was hyunjin.

" i bet you two will be great. but you're never a burden emma, we love having you around. " she smiled, a bit flattered . "but. as much as i love hanging out with you, the cafe will be closing soon. let me drive you home?" minho had offered to his friend.

she politely declined as her brother was outside just now waiting for her. but she did give him a tight hug and many thank you's before the went separate ways. and so a simple night of serious discussions had ended .

in the beginning it was the two of them in the rain with each other. but by the end, the two had of them were in love in someway. not with each other. but with broken hearts. and maybe, just maybe, things could start to heal.
