"How's moving on been?"

Brad posed the question to Connor, who sat in a chair across the room. Since Eve broke up with him a month or so ago, Brad and I have been doing our best with trying to hang out with him and make sure he's okay. He took the whole thing pretty hard.

Connor shrugged. "It's fun. It does get kind of tiring, though."

"Anyone you're interested in?" Brad asked.

"Nah. I really don't plan on falling in love anytime soon," he said. "I'd like to keep my distance from relationships."

I gave Brad a look. This is the old Connor. But I can't exactly blame him, because his heart was broken pretty badly.

"Well, someone will come along," Edith said. "You just need to do you, and when the right girl shows up, you'll know."

I wondered if that was actually true. When the right girl shows up, you'll know. I felt like that with Gemma; from the first time I saw her, I felt a connection. I knew so quickly that I was going to fall in love with her. And look where all that got me. With Paige, I didn't feel a thing when we met, but maybe that's because I was with Gemma at the time. But still, I don't feel any specific, crazy feeling right now. What's it supposed to feel like when you find the right girl? I don't have a clue. Maybe because I haven't met her yet.

"Maybe," Connor said passively.

"When did you know Edith was the right girl?" Paige asked Brad with a smile. Edith rolled her eyes, but Brad seemed enthusiastic to answer the question.

"As soon as I met her," he said with a grin. "Eighth grade."

"That's just not true," she replied.

"It is!" he said. Then he looked at Paige. "I've been completely in love with her since eighth grade, and she wants to deny it, but it's true."

"Why do you want to deny that?" Paige asked Edith. "It's so sweet."

"Because it's not true! He wasn't in love with me enough to ask me to the winter formal. He was "in love" with Amy Ehlman," Edith said bitterly.

"I only asked her because you never gave me the time of day!" Brad said defensively.

"So when did Edith cave?" Paige asked.

"Freshman year," he said. "Conveniently after I started getting popular."

Edith rolled her eyes again. "Oh, come on, Brad."

He laughed. "Kidding. It was a couple months before I was in my first big movie, so I guess she didn't only like me for my fame."

"And you guys have been together since then?" Paige asked.

Edith nodded. "It's been what, like eight years now?"

"Yeah. Nine in October," Brad replied.

"Holy shit," Connor said. "Nine years? So like, you've never slept with anyone else?"

We all laughed, except Brad didn't seem as amused as everyone else.

"Yeah, Connor. I love her, so it really doesn't bother me much," Brad said.

Connor raised his arms defensively. "Hey, whatever floats your boat."

"I think it's romantic," Paige said.
