christmas time🎄 (even though it's literally june when i'm posting this can everyone get into the holiday spirit please and thanks)

"I can't believe we actually did it," I said, taking a step back. Gemma wrapped her arms around me and leaned her head against me.

There are only a few weeks until Christmas, and Gemma had the grand idea for us to get a tree. She offered to house it in her apartment, but she doesn't exactly have an excess of space for six foot tall trees, so that's why this tree is currently in my living room. I wouldn't say I'm particularly festive or un-festive, maybe somewhere in the middle, but she's totally festive, which has caused me to conform. I don't mind. Being festive is actually kinda fun.

Getting the tree was a little complicated, but nothing we couldn't figure out. She claimed to be a Christmas tree expert, because one of her dad's best friends has a Christmas tree farm that her family would get their tree from every year. She also said she had the inside tips and secrets, but I don't really know how that applies to this particular business. We ended up finding a really nice one not too long into our expedition; cutting it down was pretty much the only thing I was in charge of, because Gemma couldn't do it. She claims she's just the brains of the operation, and that the labor-intensive things are exclusively my department. I didn't mind.

The whole process was sort of an all-day thing. I mean, we did also watch Home Alone, so that could have taken up a lot of our time, too. Gemma brought over a bunch of ornaments and decorations that her aunt had left in her apartment and never came back for, and then made our tree look festive and jolly. I won't lie; it looked really good, a lot better than I was expecting.

"I had faith in us the entire time," she told me. "I knew we could do it. We can do anything."

"Correction: you can do anything," I replied. "I'm just along for the ride on most things. You could like...cure cancer, and I'd just be in the audience, clapping for you. Which is completely fine by me."

She smiled and shook her head. "If I could cure cancer, I would have done it by now."

"Well, you've never tried," I pointed out, making her chuckle.

She readjusted a crooked ornament. "Good point. Maybe I could. It'd be pretty cool to avenge my mom," she thought out loud. "Maybe I should get into medicine."

"Maybe you should," I said. "Medical school would be a breeze for you, I'm sure."

She gave me a doubtful look. "Are you joking? I'm horrible at science; in my junior year, I almost got a B in chemistry!"
