Demi's camp getaway

Chapter 9

Rescued

Hayleys POV
We got closer to the smoke and it was a much further walk then anticipated.
We were all exhausted and happy to sit down for a half an hour break. Only the closer We got the eerier we felt. when we got there. It wasn't our camp we saw.. we were expecting to see the camp leaders, food and the other kids. But instead We could see a little camp site set up. Where are we? We are no where near our camp,
"What is that?" Maddie asked
"I don't know, but I think we should leave" Ava cried
"Yeah this could be dangerous" I said
"Ok let's start walking back" Tyler said
"Back where? We are lost" Ava cried
"That's not helping" Joel yelled
"Wait guys look! Someone's coming out of the tent" I whispered.
We all stayed silent and still behind the trees and watched from a distance. He was wearing a blue stained jersey and camo pants. He looked like he hadn't shaved or showered in weeks.
"Gross!" Maddie exclaimed
"That's rude" Jess said

"Maybe he knows where camp is?" I suggested. "Do you think we should ask him?" Said Joel
I watched him for a bit longer, he was just one guy there was 7 of us, we'd be fine.
"We out number him 7 to 1 he can't do anything, let's just.. ask if he knows the way back to our camp" I said. Everyone agreed, we didn't have many other options.
We all cautiously walked towards the man. He was throwing stuff into the fire.
"Hello? Um hi my name i-" I started before he cut me off "what are you doing here!" He shouted.
We all got frightened and took a step back ready to run "stop!" He screamed.
He had a gun. I heard Maddie start sobbing. "It's ok we will just leave" Joel said calmly. "No you can't leave. You've seen me.. you know I'm here."
The guy smiled which I found very disturbing. "You have to stay" he murmured.
"We are sorry we got lost" Maddie started crying. "Please just let us leave, we won't tell anyone we saw you" Ryan tried to reason. We all stared at the man waiting for a response. There was something so... familiar, I didn't know what it was. "Get in my Van" he screamed. We all had shocked looks on our faces and didn't know what to do we were all frightened. "I said, get in the Van!" He screamed so loud I swear I saw crows flying out of the trees.
We followed orders and walked into a big empty white van as he followed behind us aiming he's gun at all of us. "What do you want from us? We said we would leave and we wouldn't tell anyone!" I Screamed
He smiled and laughed. It was then that I noticed scabs on he's arm and he's pinpoint pupils. That's what is familiar, he is on drugs like my parents, I knew for sure he was.
"You all gotta stay right here so is I can keep and eye on ya, then I'll take care of you" hes speech was very slurred. I knew better then to fight. I could see Ryan about to speak up and say something. I quickly stepped on he's foot and gave him a 'Dont' look. He looked confused.
Just then the man slammed the door and left us in he's van.
"Why'd you do that??" Ryan raised he's voice "he is on drugs! That must be why he is hiding and paranoid" I said
Everyone looked surprised, scared and confused. "So what do we do?" Jess cried. Jess had been very quiet most of the time.
Tyler looked around, I could tell the windows were bullet proof and wouldn't open. The door was dead locked from the outside and there was no way out. It smelt terrible in here and it was disgusting.
"Well," I sighed "someone is going to come looking for us eventually.. and I'm sure they will know what to do" I finished
"Wait I have my phone!-" Maddie cried "yeah so do I. There's no service. I already tried" Joel murmured. I could tell he was very scared. "So.. we just have to wait" Ava cried "and hope someone finds us and calls the police" Tyler said
"Someone will find us! And we will be fine" I stated. I was trying to stay positive for everyone.

It had been about 2 hours and the girls were crying and I was not far off myself. The boys were getting angry and I had to keep them calm so that they didn't start anything. I knew if this guy is on drugs, he can be unpredictable and he will not hesitated to hurt us.
Jess started singing to keep herself occupied. She was singing the same song Demi sang in the diner the other day. Demi was definitely a better singer but Jess has a beautiful voice too,
"Wait shh" Tyler yelled. Jess looked offended "no don't tell her to shush-" Ava started "SHHHHSHHH" Tyler yelled waving he's hands about "keep singing its helping calm-" Ryan urged
"Guys shut the fuck up I can hear something!" Tyler scowled.  we all stayed dead silent and listened out. I could hear it to, it sounded like someone talking to the man. Are we saved? What if it's he's friend and they are going to hurt us.
"They've seen to much! And so have you!" I heard the man scream. So many thoughts were racing through my head. I heard someone unlocking the Van doors and he pushed someone inside "Demi!" We all screamed "oh I'm so glad your okay" she cried giving me a huge hug "I'm so glad all you guys are okay.. how long have you guys been here?" she wiped away a tear. "Like 2 and a half hours. We got very lost. How far are we from camp?" Ava asked. "Very far. I'm so glad I found you. Did he hurt anyone?" Demi asked.
Jess let her know no one was hurt and told her about how the guy was on drugs while I stayed completely silent, looking out the very tinted windows twiddling my thumbs. I wasn't even worthy of being saved. I felt uncomfortable after what had happened with Demi in the bathroom, she knew my secret and I wasn't okay with it. "What are we going to do?" Maddie asked "there's NO phone service here" Joel explained, Demi looked at him with a cheeky smile and pulled out a walkie talkie "it's a good thing walkie talkies don't need service then isn't it?" She smiled. Everyone cheered from relief,
