Chapter 24

Seven

"Miss, saan pong kwarto si Maria Laura Sandoval?" Angelus asked the very moment we stepped inside the hospital.

The lady in white was actually stunned by her sudden commotion and held her hands a little in the air for a surrender.

"Wait lang ma'am ah? Kalma lang po tayo, mahina po ang kalaban," the woman said and looked in her computer.

She typed some words and looked for a patient named Maria Laura Sandoval which is Angelus' colleague.

"Nasa room 43 siya," she said and made Angelus run in a hurry.

"Thank you," I said to the woman and followed Angelus.

We walked by some hallways before we took a turn and ran up the stairs. The passers are looking at us because of Angelus and her fast steps.

She was this eager to be inside this hospital after a call from her friend. Now she's breathing endlessly as we search for the room.

"Dito," she said and opened the door.

Five beds with blue curtains occupied the area. Four of the beds are occupied by patients and their company actually took some glimpse at us the moment we entered.

Angelus dragged herself beside a woman sleeping in peace with some tubes in her mouth and hands. It must be Laura because Angelus immediately held her hand. There is also a woman beside her and a young girl who started crying thirty seconds ago.

"Kumusta po ang lagay niya, tita?" Tanong ni Angelus sa babae.

This must be Laura's mother because their resemblance is quite similar. And probably the young woman beside her is Laura's younger sister.

"Hinihintay pa namin ang findings ng doctor, anak. Hanggang ngayon wala parin siyang malay at mahina parin ang tibok ng puso niya," sagot ng babae.

Angelus held her hand and the woman started crying again. She wiped her tears and looked at Angelus who's now battling with her emotions. I've seen her cry last night and I don't like seeing her like that.

If I and Angelus are not bound to meet each other and be close. I would've driven by anger because of her words and vulgarity about praying and faith. The words are senseless noise to my ears. But mortals like them needs it. I can stand hearing those words in exchange for Angelus' comfort.

"Kumain na po ba kayo?" Angelus asked and took the plastic bags in my hand and gave it to Laura's mother. "Bumili po ako ng pagkain para po makakain kayo, tita at Larra."

"Naku, nag-abala ka pa, anak. Pero salamat ah? Hindi pa kasi nakakadalaw si Gabby dito dahil sa trabaho niya."

"Maliit na bagay lang po ito para sa akin, tita. Ngunit malaki po ang pasasalamat ko dahil humihinga pa si Laura at hindi siya bumitaw."

"Salamat, ate," Larra spoke and smiled at Angelus.

Ginulo ni Angelus ang buhok ni Larra at ngumiti rin. She glanced at Laura again who's still unconscious in bed. The bandage in her head is probably the reason of her comatose. It's a crucial part because it serves as the main function of the whole body system.

"Tita, tutulong po ako sa paghahanap sa mga gumawa nito kay Laura at ako po muna ang magbabayad sa bill dito sa hospital," Angelus presented and the woman abruptly shook her head to disagree.
