So here I am in a very quiet room, with three beds . Two on the side while one is directly facing the door. It is not that small. It has a closet on the side which is portioned into three parts. The washroom is the next door immediately you enter the room. There is a table with two chairs on the side. The beds are not spread. The mattresses are not high density as the ones back home. There is a girl lying on one of the beds. I assume she is the Taiwanese I was told about. She chose the bed that is facing the door, like seriously, she was the first to arrive and she decide for the worst bed on the room but hey, who is complaining, as we say back in East Africa, Kwa Raha zake owada!
Ok, looking at her, I assume she is sleeping because with the whole time I was in the room, the minutes I took scrutinizing the whole place, I even went inside the washroom, I couldn't hear any sound from her. I decided to go to the closet, picked one side and then put in my bags. Then I decided to pick the bed that was on the side of the closet, removed my beddings and then spread my bed. I was happy that the side I chose had a socket which means I could just charge my electronic devices from my bed.
After that, I went to take a quick shower and changed into something more comfortable, some shorts and a top and wore my indoor sandles. Then I removed my laptop and decided to charge it. Then I lay on my bed getting ready to call Jimin as promised.
" Hello my heart, I have just arrived and already settled." I said
" That's nice. Are your roommates treating you well?"
I am yet to meet them. I have one who is kinda sleeping sooooo..."
" Ok, I understand. Make sure you enjoy yourself."
" Sure thing. Thanks a lot." and with that, I ended my call. I had a goofy smile on my face, so much that I didn't realize that my Taiwanese roommate was up already, staring at me just like the rest of them did.So now is the situation where you don't know if the person understand English or should I speak Korean or Tâi-gî language. These were the questions crossing my mind. The girl was still just looking at me still.
"Lì hō-bò. Gōa sē Lensah. Gōa sī Kenya-lāng." Phew that was the longest greeting to come out of my mouth. At this point the girl was just smiling while still staring at me.
"Gōa chin- ho. Gōa sē Aggie Hsieh. Gōa sī Taiwan-lāng. Lì ē-hiáu Kong Tâi-gî?" She asked. This is the moment that you cuss but I had to keep my cool being that she is my roommate thus I will be with her most of the time and then she was super cute, in an adorable teddy bear way. Asking if I know Tâi-gî yet I have just spoken it but anyway, Lensah, breathe in and out.
" Ē- hiau, chi t-sut-á."
" Oh, ok. Let's speak English then. I not that fluent but me try ok?"
Now this was worse. Don't get me wrong, I am not mocking her but for heaven sake I am a teacher so any grammatical errors make me crinch my face. It is going to be a long way.
" Ok then we will speak English and Tâi-gî ok. I help you with English and you help with my Tâi-gî ok?"
"Ok then." And with that started a beautiful friendship between Aggie and I. While we were still chatting, the door opened and a very tall beautiful long haired girl entered the room with her pink bags. Ok, I know I hate pink and that's why I noticed the many pinkish things but come on, she even had pink rings on all her fingers. And not only that, a hair highlights were also pink. I guess she might be called pinky or something. That will just....So the new comer entered the room, looked at us as if sizing us then walked to the closet and put in her bags. Then she went to check out the washrooms. At this moment, Aggie and I decided to just sit and watch her next move. When she came back, she walked to the empty bed, sat on it, then opened her bag to remove, you guessed it, a pink laptop and started working on it.
Now here is what I believe, I am from a country where people greet everyone you meet but only in the village. In Nairobi where I spent most of my time at when I went back to Kenya, the motto is," EVERYBODY FOR HIMSELF AND GOD, FOR US ALL." Looking at this girl, she is an Asian girl and they are super generous with their greeting whether it is folding your hands to give a waii for the Thai people and the Indians Namaste, or even bowing your head for the Koreans, Japanese and the Chinese people. With all this, my conclusion was that maybe she was from America or something.
" Aggie, let's go and familiarise ourselves with this place ok?" I told Aggie who was still staring at the wierd roommate of ours.
"Yes, I guess. I should be looking for my fellow trainee from our country to practice our dance." And with that we left the room to the newcomer who wanted us to buy her greetings. I officially hated the girl. Seriously, even a wave is hard. I decided not to dwell with that and called Cai so that we meet and practise our song. We walked up to the entrance where we noticed that more participants were coming. Aggie met up with the friend thus leaving me to wait for Cai who had gone to pick up his guitar." Hey Lensah, do you need anything?" I heard a feminine voice behind me calling. Looking at the source of the voice, it was the usher that had sent me to the room. Ok, I had forgotten the name, I am not that good with names.
" Nah, it's ok, my partner in crime has just gone to bring what we need for our open night performance"
" So, how did you find your room and the roommates?"
" So far I can't complain. Aggie, the Taiwanese is just a dear."
" What about Thuy Duong Kieu Ngau?"
" So that's her name. Well, I am not judging but she has an attitude problem. She just came in and set up her belongings without talking to us. We decided to leave the room for her."
" Oh, I thought it was just here. I guess you have a long way to go with that one. She is Vietnamese but grew up in North Korea."
" Now I understand. We will just let her be. If she comes to realise our worth, we will be just there for her. Anyway, I see my son waiting for me. Let's talk later ok?"
" Ok then. Enjoy."
" Always my dear." And with that I walked to where Cai was waiting for me and we decided to go and search for a cool place to practise. As we were going up the stairs to the rooftop, Cai's well discovered hideout, I got a call from Felix to give me the schedule of the church programme. This meant that as much as I was planning my performance, I had to be in touch with him all the time. Jackson and Tuan also called to confirm if we had settled well. I had to gossip about the Thuy girl with them, don't get me wrong, that is what we normally do, which made me be given the task of taking a selfie with her so that we analyse her well. By the time I was finishing my phone calls, we had reached the rooftop. The view was just that.......THE VIEW.
