FIFTY TWO

Wednesday reached faster than expected. I was just so tired of the many practice sessions that we had to go through. Yesterday after meeting the trainers, we were instructed on the technicalities of the competition. Apparently, we will be competing while wearing masks so that our fellow team mates will not be biased and choose their friends instead of the talented. We were also told to check on our weak sang songs so that we be confident with any song that we get during the elimination stage.

'' Ai Lensah, you seem really tensed!'' tem said when he came carrying my butterfly mask.
''I am really Ai Tem. This is the day that my talent is put to test you know.'' I said while pacing up and down inside the waiting room. We had been told to wait for the instructions that came next. Apparently, all of us were to be at the stage together but in differently set chambers so as to check on the competition. All I needed right now was some motivation. I had even carried my phone and earphones so that I can listen to some calming music but nothing.
" Lensah relax... Everything will be ok. I know that the song that we will get will not be that complicated. Have some faith on all the practice we have had and even the practice that your brothers helped you with... By the way, did you know that the adjudicators are from Thailand?''
'' I kind of knew that only one will be from Thailand''
''then shock on you, it will not only be one but two and the other one is from Thailand but is based here in South Korea.''
'' that's interesting but whoever comes, remember that it is not them that will be voting for us. By the way, say, if we get to win, what song will we sing?''
'' I think they said that the contestant with the most votes will sing a solo alone.''
''Ok, then if you win, which song will you sing?''
''I am not that hopeful but if I do win, I will sing...''

Everyone, take a sit for a while. We are about to start so just to inform you that make sure you wear your masks before you leave the room and make sure that you keep them on all the time. Also, if you have your phones, please hand them over. You were told that the song you sing will be chosen by you before you enter the stage but there is a change. The song will be announced to you when you are standing on the stage so please, be ready for anything. Finally, you are talent that's why your institutions or your companies sent you here to represent them. The moment you made it through the audition stage, you were already a winner. It doesn't matter whether you get eliminated today you made it this far, you should be proud of yourself ok? Now be ready, we are just waiting for the judges to settle then we start. Thank you.'' And with that he left the room.
We clapped for each other and then a boy I think from the white team came to sit with me.
'' Lensah- Chan hi? Remember me?''
'' oh, was it Takashi somebody?''
'' yes, I am Takashi Sota. You look nervous?''
'' I really am, I am not that confident with the song Endless love by Jackie Chan and Kim Hee Sun. I don't want to panic but if we get that song, I will literally faint.''
'' That song is not that complicated. For me, I am not confident with Buzz's thorn. My partner can really sing it being that she is Korean but as for me... I am really praying that we don't get it ''
''Damn, talking about prayers, I have to do what my friend Felix told me to do... Takashi, let's talk later, I have to look for my partner so that we pray.'' Then I stood up and went to find Tem who was now with some girls. I heard them speaking Thai so I knew that they might be his friends. I waid at them then took Tem's hands and took him to a secluded area.
''Ai Tem, remember me teaching you a prayer?''
''Yes I remember, why?''
'' we should pray it then.''

And with that, we did the sign of the cross then the serenity prayer. Coincidentally, when we immediately finished praying, we were called to the stage. We were the third people to perform as the pink team.

At least this day didn't end up being that bad because I got to sing the song that I really wanted. A song that has always taken me to heaven and back. Tem was also just perfect.

After finishing to sing, we sat back to listen to the rest. The only team that was giving me nightmares was Takashi's team being that they got the song that they were strong in. I even remember the trainers telling them that that was the best sang version among all the six teams.

Our strong song was Unconditional love by Nat Sakdatorn and Tol Vonthongchai.
I noticed that when the black team sang the song, the male voice was more powerful than the female one. I also noted that it was kind of they were fighting or struggling. The Red team's weakness was that the girl's voice was kind of high pitched so she was struggling to hit the high notes. This even made the audience to laugh at her at some point.

As I said at the start of the day, I knew that this was where my ability to sing and not just singing but pairing with a totally strange voice that am not used to was going to be judged by none other than Saint ,Tanapon Sukumpantanasan nicknamed Perth and Bambam.... Yes you heard me right, the locally based Thai artist that Tem talked about was Bambam. That Ai Kwai was a judge and he never gave me any hint seriously. We were told to go back to the waiting room as we wait for the voting by our fellow competitors that took only ten minutes, then we were told to go back but this time, we were standing all of us on the stage. Still wearing our masks, waiting for the most important announcement that may give us hope on our journey to be among the people who would create the greatest band to represent Asia to the battle of the pop bands or kill it as it just started.
