|Spencer's POV|I'm riddled with anxiety the second I see my phone light up, I don't need to read the screen to know who it is.
"I should take this." I quickly grab my cell phone and rush out the front door to answer.
"Why are you calling me?" I glance back and forth from the grass to the front door making sure I haven't been followed.
"I just thought we could grab lunch or something, I mean I'm right around the corner anyway." I immediately look up to see a parked car across the street, the drivers window down with Lily in sunglasses smiling and waving back at me. I hurry over to prevent her from making any moves. The second she begins to open the door I slam it shut.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" I've never been one to be intimidating, but now more than ever I need to be.
"Shit, what happened to you?" Lily reaches up and runs her fingers against my neck before I have the chance to pull back.
"I don't want to see you again. Don't call me, and stay away from my family. Do you understand?" Her smile starts to fade away.
"You don't mean that, I know you don't mean that. If who I think is in there, is in there, she doesn't care for you. Spencer, I was around for the few calls she could answer, she doesn't love you like I do." I nearly gag at the word "love" coming from Lily's mouth.
"You need to go." I say in such a stern tone I nearly don't recognize my own voice.
"Fine, if the kid ever needs a ride home just let me know." She winks and speeds off.
Anger I didn't know I could feel rises within me. Had I heard Marshall's name come out of her mouth I think I might've pulled her out of the moving vehicle. I lift my hand up to my temples and squeeze, the slight pain eases my anger. Fuck her.
I walk across the street and back into the house. Marina looks up at me from her phone. She clicks it off and sets it on the coffee table while sitting up to give me her attention.
"Who was it?" I glance back near the front door hoping she didn't just see Lily through the windows.
"Just someone from forensics checking in." I almost squeeze my eyes shut at my own stupidity. You'd think after hearing enough lies in my life coming directly from criminals I'd be able to come up with something decent.
"Checking in on what?" Her soft, innocent eyes don't look through mine. I know she doesn't suspect anything other than the truth.
"They just had some details from a previous case, anyway I'm going to take a shower and lay down for a bit." I don't wait for a response, I truly hate myself for lying to her.
I take a hot enough shower to burn my wounds, my own way of self punishment for lying to the one I love the most.
|Marina's POV|
I take a shower in the guest bathroom upstairs and start getting ready for the day. Spencer is taking the day, but I see no point in me doing the same. If anything I'm sure he needs sone alone time to process and get his head straight if it isn't already.
"Beautiful as always," Spencer says as I make my way down the stairs to his cute smirking face sitting in the kitchen. I set my bag down near the garage door and make my way over to him.
"Aren't you sweet." I kiss his head and relish in his soft curls against my face. I pull away and glance at the time on the microwave, I should head out.
"Hopefully you aren't going too far." He rubs his tired eyes and stands to wrap his arms around me.
"We'll see. Are you going to call Marshall today? I don't want him worrying and waiting for answers." I can't get the kid off my mind, I miss him and really hope we didn't traumatize him the other night.
