Calum's POV:
"Calum what did you need to talk to me about? Is everything alright?" Mackenzie asks as we get out the car and walk to the park.
"Yeah, of course everything is alright." I lie to her and of course I feel guilty lying to her because she's my bestfriend but then Luke is also my bestfriend. I just felt the need to scare Luke, making him think I'm telling her about what happened with Ruby but I won't do that because I'm not a bitch and Luke really likes Mac.
"Oh. Are you sure?" Mackenzie asks looking me over, trying to read me.
"Yess. In fact I just wanted to talk to you about Luke." Mackenzie's face lights up at the sound of hearing his name, imagine what would have happened if I would have told her about Luke, she would've been crushed, her heart would've been broken and mine would've been too.
"What about him?" She asks with a smile on her face. Her smile is so beautiful, I like it when she smiles.
"Luke really likes you and I wanted to know if you liked him too, like a lot ya know not just a little bit of a crush because he likes you way more than a crush. He's really falling for you Mac." I say hoping I hear what I want to hear.
"I like him a lot too." Mackenzie smiles and shakes her head at the ground, "He makes me happy and I don't know Calum, I just really like him."
"Oh." I say feeling crushed inside, "That's good, I am so happy for you Mac!" I lie.
"Yeah. Thank you Cal. If you don't mind me asking who's Ruby?" I cringe at her name. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to know..but if you don't want to talk about it, I understand."
"Mackenzie, you're my bestfriend. I'll tell you. Sit back and relax though because it's a long story." Once she settled down I realized I didn't want to talk about it a whole lot, "Nevermind, I'll make it short and sweet." I said firmly and she just nodded understandingly. "Okay so, I was dating Ruby. I was madly in love with her."
"What happened?" Mackenzie asks since I took a while to keep going. I take a deep breath and continue.
"We were dating for a year, on our one year anniversary.." I start getting all the flashbacks to that day but I wave them off, "I go over to her house since we were going to celebrate it there. I find her in bed with another guy." I start thinking about Luke in bed with her and I start getting angry and sad and betrayed and so many more emotions I can't put into words.
"Do you know who the guy was?" Mackenzie asks seriously, "What a bitch, how could she do that to you Calum? You deserve way better, you're an amazing guy. I would never cheat on someone because I know what that feels like, it sucks. I am so sorry."
"I didn't see who the guy was, I left immediately because I couldn't handle it." I lie, but only to protect Mackenzie. Somewhat Luke too I guess. "It's been done, it's in the past. It's whatever now. I don't care anymore."
"If you didn't care, you wouldn't have gone to her house today."
"I just felt the need to see her, I haven't seen her since that day."
"See, you do care."
"No." I shoot at her, "I'm sorry." I say once I see that I scared her, "You're right. I do care, I care a lot. It hurts me Mackenzie, it hurts me to know that people do that. Does love even exist?" I was getting all emotional but I tried not to show it, I didn't want to break down especially not in front of Mackenzie and not over this.
"It does," Mackenzie rubs my back soothingly to calm me down, "You just have to find someone that will be worth the pain. Everyone you love hurts you at least once Calum, if they don't is it really love? I think you should talk to Ruby, hear her side of the story." Mackenzie has no idea. I did hear Ruby's side and she made me feel even worse, she told me she's always wanted Luke because he was hotter, he was funnier, he was better. Luke is so lucky, he has the looks and the personality. And he has Mackenzie.
