Chapter 30: The Field Trip

Bulkhead

Y/N POV:

There we were my team and Ruby's team standing in a bulkhead taking us to Mt. Glenn with our instructor professor I mean doctor Oobleck. The reason for us being here is Goodwitch assigned students from Mistral, Atlas, Vale and Vacuo to be partnered with a veteran hunter or huntress to complete a mission. In Ruby's words "it's basically a field trip". Normally it would be one team assigned to a veteran hunter or huntress but something came up and a special exception.

Flashback

Beacon Academy

My team and I had gathered in the auditorium waiting for our veteran hunter or huntress to be selected. Unfortunately that didn't happen we never got ours selected which began to worry us. "Dude go ask miss Goodwitch what the deal is" Chris told me "yeah man I'm kind of worried we're in trouble or something" Ben said. "Why would we be in trouble? We haven't done anything wrong" Rider tells Benny. "Calm down guys I'll go ask" I tell my team.

I left the guys to go and try to find Goodwitch to talk to her about what was going on with my team. While I walked through the crowd I bumped into a family face. The person I bumped into was Coco, I hadn't seen her in some time since I joined Beacon. Something was off about her, she wasn't her usual laid-back goofy self. "Hey Coco what's going on with you?" I asked. "Oh hey Y/N, it's nothing my team and I just had a difficult mission to deal with" Coco answered.

"You look exhausted Coco, what happened?" I asked. Coco sighs "there was to many of them, we couldn't handle all of them, we were overwhelmed and had to escape" Coco answers. "Was it grimm?" I asked Coco didn't say anything she just nodded. "Are the others okay?" I asked. "There okay just shaken up a little bit, especially Velvet she's kind of out of it but Fox and Yatsu had her back" Coco answered. "That's good, you guys deserve a break and some time to recover" I said.

Coco put her hand on my shoulder "be careful out there man, I still want to be considered a god aunt to the kids" she tells me. I was confused by what she said "what do you mean?" I asked. "The walls have ears Y/N, everyone knows your tapping Blake, it's not a secret just be careful with her, mess with the cat and you get the claws" Coco answered curling her fingers and hissing before she went "meow".

With my awkward conversation with Coco over I went over to Goodwitch and began to ask her what was going on with my team and I. "Unfortunately Y/N, you and your team's veteran hunter isn't here he's doing some work for Ozpin and is probably drinking while doing it" Goodwitch explained to me. "So are we just not going to go then?" I asked. "Do not worry about that you and another team will be meeting at the cliffs while you wait for your veteran hunter" Goodwitch answered.

Time Skip

Beacon Academy Cliffside Docks

Goodwitch didn't tell me who our veteran hunter was or who the other team we'd be joining was. When we got to the cliffside docks it wasn't a surprise that the team we'd be joining was team RWBY. My guess was that Ozpin wanted to keep our teams closer together for whatever reason. They were still waiting for the assigned huntsman to appear. None of them had any idea that we were behind them so I decided to make our presence known.

"Chris I've got a joke for you, a horse walks into a bar and takes a seat at the counter, what does the bartender say to the horse?" I asked Chris loudly. Ruby and her team turns around to see us standing there. "Ooh I know this one" Ruby says "then what is it?" I ask her. "Why the long face" Ruby answers "sorry Rubes the bartender doesn't say anything because it's just a horse" I tell Ruby.
