Chapter Twenty-Two: Home
DATE
DEC 12TH, 2038
TIME
PM 06:20:12Home. After a long day at work, after getting punched in the face and shot at, it's nice to be home.
After unlocking the front door, the two detectives make their way inside, a seance of warmth washes over them. Connor hangs the keys by the door and Devon sets down her things on the table close to the door.
Clicking against the wooden floors meets their ears, a yellow ball of fur skidding around the corner. "Ellie!" Devon greets her dog as the Golden Retriever jumps up to greet her owners. The young woman hugs the dog, ruffling up her fur. Ellie leaves her to greet Connor who kneels down so he could be eye level with her.
Devon couldn't help but smile as she watches them. Ellie absolutely loves Connor. He always takes really good care of her. Making sure she's fed, groomed, and takes her out on walks every single day. The android even cooks her special food on occasion which the pup absolutely enjoys.
"I'll get the first aid kit so I can't look at your wound," Connor informs her, standing to his feet, brushing away the dog hair from his shirt. "My lip can wait," Devon tells him, noticing how Ellie is waiting by the front door. "Ellie wants to go on her walk." The brunette turns to see Ellie's tail wagging as she looks at her two owners. The dog even goes as far as to paw the door, trying to tell them what she wants.
A smile forms on Connor's lips and he sighs softly. "Okay, let's go." Ellie jumps up when he walks towards her, grabbing her leash. Devon decides to grab a beanie and stick it on so she could try and stay warm. Connor opens the front door and Ellie pulls him outside, causing the woman to laugh at her eagerness. She makes sure to lock the door behind them before she catches up to the two.
The blonde falls into step with Connor, watching Ellie as she sniffs the ground, licking the snow. Devon wraps her arms around Connor's arm, hugging it close to her as she rests her head on his shoulder. The feeling of Devon wrapped around his arm makes Connor smile softly, his brown eyes glancing over at the woman for a moment before he heats himself so she doesn't get cold.
The two enjoy the silence as they walk, just enjoying each other's company and the beautiful scenery. The sky was a dark blue, fading into black, the stars just coming in. The street lights are beginning to switch on, casting the slick street in a soft yellow glow. The snow seems to be sparkling under the light and looks so fluffy and soft. Little flakes of snow were still fluttering from the sky, drifting down to the ground. One falls on Devon's nose, causing the woman to wrinkle it up.
The pair pauses to allow Ellie to use the bathroom. Devon spots a few people outside of their house. It was a small family. A man, a woman, and a small child that was probably no older than six. They were all building a snowman in their front yard. They all had large smiles as they did this activity together, she could even hear their joyful laughs from where she stands.
