I stood on the edge of the sand taking deep breaths. If walking on the sand before was scary, this is terrifying.
I shook my head and cleared my thoughts. And I listened. I could hear multiple people playing out in the distance, kids and families laughing. But then I heard him.
I stepped into the sand and walked towards the sound of his voice. Carefully counting my steps in case I needed to backtrack. Also carefully making sure my heartbeat didn't beat to loudly in my ears, so I could still listen.
As I got closer, I felt more comfortable walking at a faster pace.
"Y/n?" I heard Sero say, he was only a few feet in front of me.
"Hey." I said, and jumped when I felt hands touch me. It was Bakugo. I let out a breath, and sat on the ground. I took deep breaths and tried to calm my heart.
"Did you just . . . . ?" Bakugo started asking as he kneeled in front of me.
"Yeah." I answered.
"All by yourself?" Mina asked and she sat next to me with her hands wrapped around my shoulders.
"Yep." I said. "That was fucking terrifying."
"I bet." Denki said and Kiri rubbed on my back.
"What are you doing out here?" Kiri asked me, and I smiled and grabbed Bakugo's hand.
"I was wondering if you would take me swimming?" I asked him, and I felt him jump. I could also feel myself shaking, I was so scared from trying to walk out here.
"Are you sure?" He asked me, and I smiled before nodding to him. "Yeah." He said and pulled me off the ground. He held onto my arms as he led me towards the water, and I couldn't help but jump when the water touched my feet. "You're okay, I've got you."
"I know." I said and walked out into the water. He made me stop when the water was up to my knees and made me sit down. It was almost up to my chest, and I was breathing really hard.
"Relax." He whispered in my ear and laid me back against him as he sat behind me, with his legs around me. I tried my best to relax, and realized we weren't swimming.
"Does this count as swimming?" I asked him, and he chuckled in my ear.
"It does for you." He told me and he ran his fingers up my arm. I laughed and he kissed my shoulder. "Did you really walk all the way out here by yourself?"
"Yeah." I said. "I don't know what I was thinking."
"Whatever you were thinking, I like it now." He said and hugged me close to him.
"Do I impress you?" I asked him, and he turned his head on my shoulder.
"What?" He questioned me, and I couldn't help but giggle.
"Nothing, it was something Deku said. It just got me thinking." I said. "Mr. Aizawa also agreed."
"That idiot Deku." He said. "What did he say?"
"They said that when we first met, that I impressed you. And that's why you were so much more gentler with me then everyone else." I told him, and he was quiet for a minute. "Bakugo?"
"I mean, their not wrong." He said into my shoulder. "You did impress me, but really . . . ."
"What?" I asked him and leaned my head against his.
"There's a feeling in my chest." He told me. "When I look at you. When you talk. All I want to do is hold you, and keep you there. I don't want to let you go. I love the way you smile no matter whats happening. You even make fun of yourself, for the sake of others like it's no big deal. And you're smile is the prettiest thing I've ever seen." I couldn't help but smile, even though there was tears building in my eyes. I felt them fall and Bakugo flinched. "Why are you crying?"
"I don't know." I said and leaned forward off of his chest. I put my face in my hands and wiped the tears away. "I never thought I'd hear someone say that, let alone be with someone." He rubbed my back, and the cool salt water rolled down my back from his touch.
"Why because you don't have a working pair of eyes?" He asked, and I snorted.
"No . . . . ." I said and covered my face. He leaned closer to me, and wrapped his hands around my arms. "Growing up, I thought that I wasn't good enough or that I will never be enough. And I thought that that was why he would hit me. Or why schools didn't do anything to stop other kids from pushing me around. After my mother died, I never thought I'd feel loved again."
Bakugo didn't say anything as he pulled me into him and I turned enough to hug him. I sniffed, and held onto him.
"You're more than enough." He whispered to me. "And I promise, I won't let your Dad lay another hand on you." I crawled closer to him, and took a deep breath in. The smell of salted caramel filled my nose, and I relaxed in his arms.
That was until we got tackled and thrown by a giant wave and pushed us farther into the sand. I sat up and coughed as I took my glasses off my face and dug the salt water out of my useless eyes.
"You guys okay?" Mina called out from some where off to the side. I continued to cough as I threw my thumb up in the air.
"You okay?" Bakugo asked me, and I could hear he was trying not to laugh.
"I mean talk about a mood killer." I laughed, and he couldn't help but join in as he wiped my hair away from my face.
"Guys come on! We got to start heading to the party!" I heard Denki call out and I stood off the ground.
"Here." I heard Bakugo say, and he touched my arm so I knew where he was. He pulled a shirt over my head, and it was bigger than me.
"Is this your shirt?" I asked him excitedly, and hugged myself. It was warm from sitting in the sun.
"Well I'm not going to give you someone else's shirt." He griped at me and wrapped his arm around my neck. I put my glasses on, and smiled as I felt the small plastic mustache hit my lip.
"I really love these glasses." I told him.
"They suit you." He said and I wrapped my arm around his waist. "You know what else suits you?"
"What?" I asked him.
"You in my shirt with no pants on." He said, and I smacked his bare chest. "It's true." And all I could do was shaking my head at him. As we got closer to the party, I could hear other people around us.
"I didn't think this out very well." I said.
"What do you mean?" Bakugo asked me.
"I can't see in sand, and we're about to be in a huge crowd." I told him. "And I can imagine it's only going to get bigger as the night goes on."
"Don't worry, I'm right here." He told me. "We'll all keep our eye on you."
