I sat on a rooftops edge with my knees to my chest. I laid my head down on my knees and looked down at the busy city below. A city that wouldn't miss me, no matter how much I missed it.
Tomorrow I was to be flown to America to go live with my aunt. I was supposed to be finishing packing right now, but every part of me didn't want to finish. So instead I walked until I got here, up on the rooftop of one of the tallest buildings in the city. The same building I had my first lunch with Hawks.
Where I told him I didn't feel special. Where the road of me believing in myself had all started.
"Hey kid." I heard behind me and when I turned my head around, I saw Hawks landing on the roof. "What are you doing all the way up here?"
"Trying to figure out how to say goodbye to this city." I said, and rested my chin on my knees.
"You don't have to say goodbye you know." He told me and he sat in front of me on the ledge.
"Yes I do." I argued.
"No you don't." He said. "You could stay, and-."
"And what Hawks?" I asked him, but I didn't get mad at him. I was done being mad. At him, myself, everything. "And become a vigilante?"
"I mean, you got the skills for it." Hawks said, and I gave him a look.
"I don't want you to go." He sighed and I watched him. He looked down and played with his hands. I put my knees down and scooted closer to him and crossed my legs. I reached out and touched his wings, making him jump.
"Sorry." I said, and continued to run my fingers through his feathers. I should have asked first, me of all people knew better. But I couldn't help but wanting to touch them.
"It's okay." He told me and he moved his wing over so it was between us, and I could pet it. "I want you to have one." I looked up at him.
"Hawks I'm not-." I started but he stopped me.
"Please." He begged me. "Pick one. You can turn it into a quill and use it to write to me." I laughed and smiled at him. "That's what I want to see." He told me, and I looked him in the eye.
It had been a week since I had laughed or smiled. But I smiled as I plucked one of his feathers from his wing, and smiled at it in my hand. It was one of his shorter ones, and it reminded me of my feathers.
"I don't want you to go." He whispered to me, and leaned forwards until our foreheads were touching.
"I don't either." I told him. "But you know what?"
"What?" He asked.
"I wouldn't change a damn thing about what I did." I told him. "I may have lost my quirk, but . . . . at least I didn't lose you."
"Oh how romantic!" Someone said and the two of us jumped. We looked towards the voice and saw a bunch of guys had joined us on the rooftop. We hopped off the ledge and onto the roofs ground.
"Can we help you fellas?" Hawks asked them.
"Oh I think you can." The man said and stepped forward into the light so we could see his face.
"Dad?"
