Airabella stayed behind from her search on the eighth day. She intended to get her sisters location from Onicent. She knew her sister Alora well enough to know that she wouldn't have run for so long. So off Serse went on her own that day, while Airabella waited for Onicent, Onicent was surprised to see her in the castle still. He greeted her warmly, but was met with coldness, which was disappointing. She pressed him for information about Alora, and still he resisted, until finally he snapped that he had loved Alora. Airabella was taken aback and drew up in offence. She was somewhat vain and refused to see that Alora could have held an attraction over her, she had always been the prettiest of the sisters.
She hardly showed this shift but Onicent sensed it. At once his mind turned this over, Airabella was very pretty, and a little competition was fun in his mind. Anything he'd felt about Alora seemed to dissipate, now he wanted Airabella. But by then Airabella had stormed off again, leaving Onicent to his own thoughts.
He figured he could impress Airabella, so for the middle meal of the day he ordered an extravagant feast. But Airabella sat across from him still and refused to meet his eye for longer then a few seconds, yet she eat heartily. Onicent considered this a step forward. He brought her bundles of flowers and left them outside her room, they did disappeared but she gave him no thanks, stubbornly it seemed she was determined to ignore him.
So finally in frustration he asked to be hs bride. He promised her to be a good husband, to love and care for her. He promised her power as a ruler beside him. He could tell she considered all this, her heart had been slightly melted by him, so she told him, "I will marry you on the day I tell you I love you."
Perhaps she regretted this quickly afterward, yet she was feeling secure. Why would she ever tell Onicent she loved him. Onicent kept up his barraged of flowers and lovely meals, he even gave her a jeweled sword, which she'd never admit she liked. She kept up her cold demeanour toward him, besides she had other things to worry about, her sister Serse had failed to return from her journey. Indeed soon enough she had forgotten her bargain and began to search. Onicent made a show of helping her, though she never let him help her search for Serse. She also kept an eye out for Alora, but not a trace of either girl was to be found. She grew sadder day by day, for she longed and longed for her sisters company. Onicent sensed this deep sadness in her, and soon formed a plan.
It was one morning that Airabella was out in the gardens around the castle, she had given up her search now and resigned to her loneliness, that was when she heard a sweet voice calling her, and she recognized it.
"Serse?" she cried, she ran to the voice. But she found only flowers where it seemed to come from. Confused she looked around herself.
Then it started from behind her, "Airabella, you left me alone in the woods."
Airabella broke into tears, "I'm sorry, I wished I had came, I looked for you everyday. Where are you?"
"I will not show myself to you for you do not care for me." The voice replied coldly.
Airabella burst out, "I do Serse, I love you."
"And I love you too," a voice whispered in her ear, only it wasn't Serse.
"You tricked me!" Airabella snatched herself away from him.
"I did not, I have found your sister, she is safe."
"Then why didn't you bring her here instead."
"I love you Airabella and I want you to be my queen, you told me you loved me too."
Airabella felt surges of anger, she had been tricked into this, she should have guessed. But a promise is a promise she knew, she had no way to refuse now. "Fine, I will be your queen. But you must always be loyal to me. No one ever gets between us."
Onicent hesitated, but really who else was there to fall for. Still always was a long time, but he had finally won his fight so somewhat reluctantly he agreed. Airabella was slightly happier to know she'd have his loyalty.
She had but to find her sisters.
