(Somehow I forgot to put this is the last chapter, Iyora has gone with Alora now. I repeat, Iyora is with Alora now... Apologies I finished the last chapter when I was really tired)
Dauntice had been meaning to visit Serse for awhile, it was after all Farren's home town Serse lived in. He swam along the river happily but when he reached the village he was surprised to discover it was not a village anymore. He had to swim under a bridge and wall to go inside. Inside it was beautiful and towering. Dauntice just stood in the river for a moment, mouth open in surprise. That was when Serse saw him.
"Dauntice," she called, she looked radiant and happy, indeed there seemed to be something powerful to this place. As always she was dressed simply, but it couldn't disguise her glow. Other humans were looking at him, but they seemed more at ease. In short something had definitely changed.
"This place," Dauntice said, "this place is amazing!" He couldn't hide his excitement.
Serse blushed slightly, "humans are amazing creatures."
Dauntice nodded numbly. He stepped out of the river and shook himself off. Neonee came out of one of the houses, he had grown stronger looking already. His hands were glimmering with red dust.
"Neonee, your uncle has come to visit." Serse told him.
Neonee took a slight bow to Dauntice, who returned by inclining his head.
"Let me show you what I have been making," Neonee said. Dauntice followed him to the walls. "I am creating defences so there can be fewer guards." He explained, "and it will be safer that way."
Dauntice nodded as Neonee showed him various traps. But it was complex and Dauntice felt himself lose some focus. He did have a question though.
"Where is your wife?" He asked Neonee.
Neonee looked more like a boy then ever, he looked down at his feet. "With someone else I suspect."
Dauntice knew that Neonee's wife was a curse as much as a blessing. He felt sorry the boy hadn't gotten a wife like Farren. Besides in Dauntice's opinion the boy to young for a wife anyways, he barely looked as old as Sonnis, whom Dauntice would not let marry for a least a while longer.
As they walked through the village, Dauntice felt a draw to something. In the centre of the houses was a small structure, but it had immense power. Dauntice approached it and discovered a small fire burning in the centre of a structure containing a red stone torch, a single crop and a torch.
"What is this?" He said, as he got close enough to reach out he could almost taste its energy.
Serse blushed slightly. "As a thank you to my sister and myself they built this, each item represents one of us. They toss gifts into the fire." She explained. Now Dauntice understood Serse's glow, it was the humans gifts fuelling her.
Something stirred in Dauntice, he wanted deeply to be honoured in this way.
"Why did they give you this?" He asked strangely.
"We helped build this town from ruins, and protected the people against the monsters." She said this casually.
Dauntice gazed into the fire and knew he wanted one too, or maybe more than one. He could almost feel how powerful they would make him. Maybe even strong enough to overthrow his brother. It was a dangerous feeling indeed.
