Ilo knew what she needed to do next. Xeo walked at her side, a towering presence which she despised. She tried to keep a clean and straight face, but her lip quivered slightly.
"Are you missing him?" Xeo threw out suddenly.
She held her head slightly higher and didn't look at him. They both reached the shrine.
"It is like you," he said, "you were always a bit soft." She reached out but was stopped by him, "allow me." He said pleasantly.
"You were never a gentleman." She told him.
"True," he shrugged slightly. He tapped the shrine and it started to glow. "I would suggest you look away," he told her, "I am going to have to morph into my first form."
She stubbornly stared at him. Black smoke seemed to envelop him as he shifted into a terrible monster.
The monster had three heads and a skeletal body. He called himself the Wither.
Both siblings were brought easily to the overworld by the connected shrines.
"I suppose I shall see you again soon," the wither offered.
Ilo ignored him and stalked off. She knew she had to get a handle on herself. Just because she had been away from her family, didn't mean she was free of them. She had to become them again. She had liked her cousins, loved some of them even, and she had her own son to think about. Her father was dangerous though, more dangerous than anything else was to her.
She walked stiffly to the sea and dove in. The twins found her soon enough.
"Wow your pretty," Sourlont said. He spun around her slowly, only to be whacked hard by his sister.
"We're supposed to be protecting the palace," she complained, giving Ilo a glare. Normally Ilo would be amused by this react by both of them. But today she felt tense.
"I need to get to the palace," she said.
"Allow me to guide you there," Sourlont said offering a hand.
Syrona shook her head muttering 'kelp head' and swam away.
Ilo did not take the hand rather she swam beside him in long strides.
"Here we go, want me to take you inside?" Sourlont had seemed to forget his tail.
Ilo turned a honied gaze on him, "no thank you, but thank you for the help."
He blushed blue, "no problem."
Ilo walked through the gates.
"Oh, your here," Ilo looked and saw Airabella with her arms crossed. "Where is my son then?"
"I don't know," Ilo said, she was of course lying. Amos would probably be contained somewhere in her father's palace awaiting her return. She would have to be quite quick, before her magic wore off him.
Airabella sniffed.
Ilo carried on, she found the throne room easily enough and felt a sudden pang of sadness. She pushed that off.
"Ilodeena," Dauntice said, "we were not expecting you here, but you are welcome."
She smiled slightly at him in a sweet way and carried on. Finding Epis was proving a bit difficult.
Eventually she did find him, he was staring out a window into the sea.
"Epis," she greeted. He didn't even turn around.
She walked up beside him and stood at his shoulder. Now to play her part. "I know your sad my cousin."
"The sun does not shine down here in the dark," he said gloomily.
Ilo nodded, "it hurts me to see you so distraught, you have lost the hardest thing to lose, true love." An easy angle for her of course being a goddess of love. She did sense that he was miserable with grief.
He shook his head, "I spelled her doom myself with my foolishness." He seemed to remember something and stepped away from her, "your son killed her!"
Ilo backed up slightly, perhaps Epis had thought this would make her go away, rather it was a perfect opening.
"I have a way to amend for our wrongs, but you must come with me."
"Nothing could amend for her."
"Not even her herself?" Ilo ventured.
Epis stopped her a second, he pressed his forehead to the window. "I made a promise."
Ilo could see she nearly had him convinced, he pulsed with his longing so stronger it was alike to currents in the air around them.
She honied her voice with her magic, "come with me."
Epis seemed to slacken a bit, Ilo pushed him a bit harder until she saw his resolves bend and break. Of course she knew this very well might not last. She needed to hurry.
So she took his hand and lead him with her, muttering her encouragement. She took him far far away from the castle, no one had seen them leave.
