Onicent was livid with anger. His powers pulsed out in the world around him, now that Maiguh had taken the girl he would return her, and then the confusion of the gods and goddess's would set in. Onicent could not let that happened, no he could not!

It would undo all his efforts! He would lose the last shred of trust and respect he had!

He would not, could not, let go of power.

He had to stop Maiguh returning Elsbeth.

A smile spread across his face. A perfect idea, he would use his powers to stop the End portals and nether portals from working. He reached out and found the strength to strike them all down. Amazed with how his powers had grown Onicent grinned more and more widely. No one would come in or out.

Then he turned around and headed back home.

On the other end Maiguh had arrived safety, but then he watched as the portals flickered and died.

"What just happened?" Elsbeth asked him.

"The portals have dis activated." He said sounding fairly calm.

"Does that mean I can't go home, my poor mother! She will worry terribly!" Elsbeth cried.

"I am sorry little one," Maiguh told her. "You will be welcome here until we can reactivate the portals and leave. Then I can return you home."

Elsbeth nodded slowly, "I don't understand what has happened. A man who looked like you came to my home and then everything was dark. Then I was in a cold dark room, and he returned frequently. Suddenly you arrive and save me. What has happened?"

Maiguh considered telling her the entire truth and hesitated.

"I am not a child," she said somewhat stubbornly, crossing her arms, which had the opposite effect, succeeding in amplifying her childlike qualities.

Maiguh suppressed a small smile, "of course not." He wondered if her mother would be anger if he told her her own past. She was old enough, and circumstance called for it, he reasoned. He would spare her the worst of it.

"Your mother stayed here with me when she was younger," he told her, "but she left when you were born."

Elsbeth's eyes seemed to widen a bit, "so I have been here before! I knew it!"

"Briefly but yes," Maiguh said.

"Did I like it here?" she asked.

Maiguh shook his head slightly.

"Your mother took you when you were young, I never saw you up close."

She looked perplexed, "are you my father?"

Maiguh had already answered this once, but answered again without complaint, "no."

"I don't understand, why are you helping me? Who is my father?"

Maiguh took a breath, "your father is a man named Onicent, he is the one who kidnapped you."

"Oh..." she said, then she was silent. Finally she said, "thank you."

Seeing how lost and tired she looked, Maiguh summoned his daughters, "Dinetee, Endra," he said. The two materialized at his side. "Help to settle Elsbeth into a room. Make her feel at home." He said.

"Of course father, come Elsbeth." Dinetee said gently. They walked Elsbeth to the castle, Maiguh watched them go and then went to the portal.

It was dead.
