Alora's Request

Alora was going to the one place she could think to go. She knew it was a dangerous move to make but she was consumed by her terrible grief and guilt over Elsbeth. She muttered to herself how foolish she had been.

All this time she had guarded against Onicent, when in fact it was the one she had trusted who betrayed her the worst. Maiguh had taken her treasure.

When she had heard Onicent roar she was sure she knew its meaning.

She hoped for his aid.

Part of her felt heavy with the guilt of turning on Dauntice and Airabella, they had suffered a lose of their children too and that was to Onicent.

They had broken the rules though, Alora reasoned. Onicent had been rash, but the more she thought of it, perhaps punishment was fair enough to them. Her little one had done nothing in her life.

Perhaps Alora should have allowed Elsbeth more time in the world. Now she was stuck in the End, where there was no nymphs or trees or flowers. She would wither and die of the lack of sun.

The plants continued to die at Alora's feet as her madness carried her forward.

She climbed the fountain with ease and entered the palace. She was surprised to run into a young boy whom she did not recognize.

"My lady, forgive me," he said ducking out of her way.

"I am looking for Onicent," she told him.

Something told her that they didn't get many visitors.

"I am Dio, and who are you?"

"Alora, goddess of plants."

Dio looked over her shoulder and saw the trail of destruction. His eyes widened. He gave her a small bow and motioned her to follow.

Onicent was sitting on his throne staring over the empty room with an expression that seemed to be somewhat hollow.

"Father, you have a guest," Dio announced and then scurried away.

Onicent looked up and conflicting emotions crossed his face when he saw Alora. She stared him down before settling into her own throne.

"Are the others returning," Onicent asked in a strange voice.

"No, this isn't about them," Alora said. She sat rigid now in her seat, "I need your help."

Onicent let out a cackling laugh. But Alora just continued her stare at him till he ceased.

"My daughter, Elsbeth, has been taken by your brother Maiguh. I demand to have her returned safely to me immediately." Alora declared to Onicent.

Onicent returned her stare, "and the child's father?" He asked.

Alora inhaled, "it is unimportant, what matters is she has been taken."

Under the surface Onicent felt a level of delight, as long as he had the portals shut Maiguh could not return the girl, it was more perfect than Onicent could have hoped. He tried to be more formal and commanding now, though he felt somewhat humiliated in recent days, "I shall aid you in retrieving her then."

Alora nodded slightly, perhaps she should have thanked Onicent as he had expected her to. He was slightly disappointed not to receive that vector of her respect for him. But he'd take what he could get and wait out the rest.

It was only a matter of time and trickery.
