Sonnis and Ianin walked huddled together toward the End portal.
"The walls are crawling," Ianin said, he was running a hand along the wall nervously.
"No there not," Sonnis said, she touched the wall herself, but she was surprised to find Ianin was right.
"Something wants to get out," Ianin said. Before Sonnis could stop him, Ianin took out a pickaxe and smashed a block to smithereens. A small grey fishlike thing jumped out at Sonnis. Sonnis batted it away screaming.
"What is that," she said, her hands covered her head. Ianin leant down and scooped the creature up in his hands.
"I think it likes me," he said. The little creature wiggled. Ianin stroked it with a finger.
Sonnis found herself shaking her head, leave it to Ianin to make weird friends.
"You'll have to leave it here." Sonnis said.
Ianin held it to his chest. "No, it wants to come too!"
Sonnis knew they needed to keep moving, Amos would be looking for them.
"Fine, now come on."
She pushed Ianin forward with a hand. Together the two found the portal.
"It's so bare," Ianin said, a shiver went up his body.
Sonnis took his arm and brought him to the portal. Then they jumped in together.
The end was a desolate place. They were surprised to find they were not alone.
"Cousin!" Epis cried. Him and his sisters came running up to them. They stopped short when they saw Ianin's new friend.
"What is that?" Enisia cried.
Ianin cuddled the little creature protectively.
"Sonnis, Ianin. Welcome to the End."
Maiguh came toward them with a slight smile. Sonnis saw great pain underneath the smile though, and she felt pity for him. "Thank you lord and uncle." She said, taking a deep bow to him. Ianin stumbled into a bow as well.
Maiguh laughed a tiny bit, "so polite I see."
His laughter was somewhat hollow though. He turned away and started to walk to the castle.
"So what are you two doing here?" Epis asked Ianin.
Ianin looked frightened slightly. The truth was that Epis's brother had attacked him. Epis waited for Ianin to speak, but he said nothing Epis shrugged. "Mother was fighting again with Father."
Sonnis nodded.
They all headed to the castle. Maiguh had prepared already for guests, his home was very lonely though, completely different then Onicent's palace. The castle was hollow and dark in a lot of ways, but it was also somewhat homey, Sonnis could see herself happy here.
Maiguh was waiting in the main room, he had a single throne, and beside it three small ones. They all stood empty, Sonnis had a feeling they had been that way for awhile.
Maiguh followed her gaze, "the thrones of my daughters, they have been punished by Onicent."
Sonnis nodded.
"Onicent blinded them, and now they can't find their ways home. I have but to wait and try my best to guide them." He said wistfully. He was so much calmer then his brothers Sonnis realized. She now knew his sadness. He seemed to read her face, "there is nothing to be done my child. When they are ready they will return to me. For now they guide the dead, and I don't interfere."
There was a deep rumbling from outside. Maiguh looked up and his eyes twinkled. "I do believe my mother wishes to speak to you and your brother."
"Your mother?"
"Your grandmother." Maiguh said, "walk to the edge of the void, she will be waiting below."
"She lives in the void?" Sonnis said.
"Yes, I was born in the void, as was your father."
"Whats the void like?" Sonnis asked.
"Very plain and cold, but I liked it." Maiguh said, he looked distant. "Don't keep her waiting."
