Professor Handa was the mentor of the team of 5 young men who were waiting for the meeting with Dusk Hale. They were all former students of Regis Cybera College, now the promotors and Directors of a company called Futurista LLC.
They were apprehensive when Dusk came in, because it was clear she was upset about something, which was always bad for a meeting. Princess Catherine who came with her was somewhat scared and subdued. They were introduced to the third person, who was another director from Dusk Hale's company.
Handa introduced the team and explained what they had been doing since having left college two years before.
On the table in front, they had placed 6 pairs of gloves. Dusk examined one of them very carefully while Daniel was picked up another one. Catherine was wearing one of them and looking at it with utter fascination. Her own apprehension from the previous meeting forgotten.
"Connect it to any demo VR you have and let Princess Catherine play with it." Dusk said as she continued examining the glove. The idea of putting a series of small batteries at the base of the gloves was a smart move, but in order to achieve flexibility, each had to be separately wired. She could not find a central junction point, which means each battery was connected to a set of drive motors.
But each of the battery was connected to a specific set of motors. So, if that particular motor was used more than the others, that battery would run out faster. That means some functions would stop working while others would continue, in effect, making the product defective for the consumer. As certain motors failed during usage, it caused in deteriorating performance. The user would not know that some of the batters ran out faster, they would only complain that some things stopped working after some time.
In a normal stable business, such problem would be solved by repeated improvement through continued research and development. A new company, without much money, could not afford that. It was no longer a college project but a company that needed money for everything.
They had given Catherine a set of gloves, VR Headset for sound and visual and switched on a sword-fighting game. She loved the game, which she had not played before. In fact, her attendants and teachers had never allowed her to play VR games. Dusk watched as she swung her hand and made strange noises, almost unaware of what was happening around her. So far at least, the gloves were working properly. Dusk had purposely given her one wired and one wireless glove. As Dusk expected, about 20 minutes later, she took off the gloves saying some fingers were not moving properly. It lasted longer than Dusk had estimated, however.
Dusk accessed the diagnostic tools she had got from the Techredulous server and started to check the device logs and transmission files from the game and VR server. The Game server and VR server were running properly. In fact, it was better than the ones she had as they had used Professor Handa's new VR engine. However, after 18 minutes, the log started to show what Dusk had feared. The VR logs showed they were no longer getting response from some of the receptors on the glove.
"This is unfair and stupid!" Catherine was complaining. "I was just about to kill the knight and the finger did not move! Who made this thing stop?"
Ignoring her, Dusk asked, "Do you have a diagnostic log or transaction log on the gloves?"
"We have very small log space there. It was built into the battery, so it lasts about 10-12 minutes depending on usage. The problem is that we have 110 batteries there in a pair of gloves, so we have 220 log files in both gloves together."
Dusk downloaded all the log files from the wireless glove. She knew the wired glove would not be a problem at all. She forwarded the logs to Rowdon at Tech Morning Star Building and then called him.
