There was an awkward silence in the room. For a minute or two, Dusk sat there, her heads between her hands. Dawn was sitting on the other sofa not able to think what she should do. She did not know when or how Luke / Julien lied to her sister and why.
Then Dusk pushed herself off the sofa, walked to her room and shut the door. Dawn hesitated only for a moment and then rushed after her. Shanit Lidwig looked at her daughter and her niece, hoping one of them will help her out.
"MOM! I told you to shut up! Julien did not tell Dusk who he was. He was pretending to be Luke, rich but not a Prince! Dusk is not like the normal brats you meet in Regis and among the Nobles. She is not interested in wealth and luxuries. She believes in hard work and achievement. And you insulted her on each of those matters!
"She does not want to be in a relationship with Nobles, Royals or even the very rich. She believes they are... unreliability. Julien reveal his wealthy status very slowly. But Dusk still thinks his parents are only government employees." Catherine cried in frustration.
"But why? We are much better, isn't it? We can give her much more. We can protect her. What is her problem?"
"Mom, haven't you been listening to what I am saying? She does not want or care about what you can give her. She is not in it for money or power or even status. She wants a normal person because she thinks he will be more compatible. If she knew at the start how rich Luke is, she would have avoided him completely. Why didn't you ask him before saying anything? Why did you even come here tonight?"
"I came over because he is exposing himself to risks every time he comes here secretly. And why should my Daughter-In-Law suffer either? If they agreed to make it official, I don't care if he comes here every day or moves to this city as long as it is in proper protocol and security. That is all I wanted.
"And ask him? When is he ever home! From the time he became the Crown Prince it is as if I need an appointment too. He is at the Imperial Palace most of the time. And when he stays home, he is always busy with your dad, or someone or the other. And now he is in here every night. And he come by that damn fighter jet instead of EPAC! And without his security guards. All he has is the few guards that are there for you and that girl."
"Ok, Aunty, now that the matter is launched, what do we do now?" Rosemary asked.
"Will she agree to move to the Hotel like I asked? She is upset with me..."
"I don't think we should consider that now. Let Cath stay here also for another night. But we need to have dinner. Let me see if I can convince her to at least go out for dinner."
Rosemary called Dusk on the communicator since her room was locked. After two attempts she accepted the call.
"Dusk lets at least have dinner. Everyone is hungry. Even Dawn must be starved. We will resolve everything in the morning. I will call Luke over." Rosemary suggested.
"No. I am not hungry. You guys go and have dinner somewhere. Take Lady Shanit to the Professor's Club or take her to that restaurant in Oyster Plaza where Lady Crystala took us last time. You need to treat her as per her status. Or for that matter, Dawn can cook as she had planned." Dusk replied.
"Don't do that! Don't just cut us out of your life. Come and have dinner with us. We didn't do anything, did we? We all support and respect you. Are you upset with me also?"
"I am not hungry. And yes, you are all a part of the conspiracy of lies. Upset? Of course, I am! In fact, go without Dawn, she will manage here. I have a headache. I am going to sleep."
"Please Dusk, don't behave like that..."
But Dusk did not bulge. Catherine called Dawn and pleaded with her to come with her for dinner and finally Dawn agreed to go. Dusk did not deny her permission because she did not want to insult Princess Shanit by directly refusing approval to Dawn to go with her.
