Yawning Evaline followed Rudy into their apartment. After dinner they'd stayed and watched a movie and it was now going on midnight. Way past Evaline's bedtime.
Kicking her shoes off Evaline headed towards the patio doors and took a peek outside at the storm. She could hear the heavy rain and wind blowing.
"I'm gonna head to bed," she announced letting the blinds fall back into place as she turned away from the door.
"Okay. Are you okay with the storm?" he asked as she picked her comforter up off the couch. "Yeah the wind and rain don't bother me. It's the thunder and lightning that I hate," she replied, dragging her comforter behind her.
"Goodnight," she told him, stopping to kiss his cheek. "Night. If you need anything you know where to find me," he reminded her. Nodding she headed to her room for the night.
Hours later Evaline jolted awake at the sounds of thunder and flashes of lightning behind her closed window shades. Hearing the rushing of the wind and the rain beating down she jumped when the thunder boomed outside.
Rolling her eyes she pulled her covers over her head in an attempt to drown out the sounds. By the fifth consecutive boom she knew it was useless. Sitting up she threw her covers off and rubbed her eyes as she glanced at the time on her cell phone.
"Sleep right through it my ass," she mumbled as she let out a small yelp when the thunder boomed again. "Screw this," she grumbled, hopping out of bed she hurried out of her room to Rudy's.
'Lucky,' she thought, glaring at the sleeping boy as she slid in bed next to him. Jumping at the sound of the thunder Evaline inched closer and attempted to relax so she could fall back to sleep.
"Evaline?" came a tired voice from beside her. "Sorry, the thunder is freaking me out," she whispered, "I can go," she said, starting to push herself up.
"No," he said, grabbing her arm and pulling her back down beside him, "Just go to sleep," he told her. Jumping again at the sounds of the storm Evaline dove back under the covers. Feeling his hand take hers she finally relaxed and fell back to sleep.
Hearing the sound of a camera click Evaline opened her eyes to find Rudy holding her camera, "What are you doing?" she questioned. "Taking a picture of you while you sleep," he stated, "The way you were sleeping caused your shirt to ride up and I wanted to get a picture of Baby Bean," he told her.
Blinking Evaline looked down to realize her shirt was bunched up right under her breasts and her entire pregnant stomach was on display. "Can I see what you shot?" she asked, sitting up against the headboard.
Sitting next to her Rudy showed her the picture he got of her sleeping with her baby stomach. Smiling at the photo Evaline leaned over and kissed him, "Thank you and thanks for letting me sleep here last night," she said.
"You can sleep here anytime you want," he responded, shrugging, "How come you don't like storms?" he asked. "That's a heavy question," she replied sliding down under the covers again.
